Water week take three

Now, there are about a thousand versions of towel cover ups out there.  (which is why I didn't make one for sytyc) but I wanted one for my daughter...so I made one. I actually bought a towel to make it out of and I just happened to be at Joanns (for the third time in a week) and they had this cute towel fabric

for 50% off.  I got 24 inches of the striped and only 12 inches of the polka dot. (if I would have bought a yard of one and a bit more of the other one I could have made two wraps)
so for a mere $6 bucks in fabric I made this

Here's how:

took my material....measured it out. (okay, I held it up to my daughter and eyeballed it)
Added a trim on top

sewed it the top and then folded it over and sewed it the back so the top was a nice finished edging.

Took another polka dotted piece and made a ruffle. (run a big stitch through the top and pull the threads until it gathers up..pin the each side then pull until it fits.)
Pinned it all on and sewed it up

(I sewed the bottom of the ruffle up before I gathered it all)
Then I folded over about an inch on both sides and sewed it up for a finished edge

Took a HUGE piece of velcro

and attached it (once again I "meausured" I just held it up and marked with a pin where the velcro needed to go.

sewed those on (what's nice is that even if they don't match up perfectly the towel still hooks the rough velcro so it stays in place!!)

I took my last piece of Polka dot fabric and sewed it together right sides in

turned it right side out and cut in half.
Ironed it so the seam was right in the middle of the back

attached it the front panel of the wrap

and sewed up the ends by tucking down the unfinished edges and sewing along the top

I left mine a halter...but you could measure and sew the straps down to the back.

Finished product:

so, if  you just had a towel...you could cut it accordingly..sew up the edges and use the piece you cut off for straps. Add some velcro and done. Easy peazy.
