so. i crapped out on you yesterday. sorryboutthat.
not really.
cause i got loads of stuff done.
and today is a FANTASTIC glue gun tutorial
(if i do say so myself)
it's one of those projects that just confirms to myself how awesome i am.
yes. i really just said that.
yes. i'm a little high on spray paint fumes.
and it's really late.
but I still LOVE the outcome of this redo.
i know totally cute...it started out as a normal mirror you can buy at walmart...or home depot...
i got this baby for about $4 bucks.
sorry. sometimes i get so excited that i forget a decent before picture
i taped it off (it actually came white...i painted it red...now it's back to white)
then I picked up this sheet of reallllllly thin mdf board for about $3.and i had my handy dandy dad chop it up....and i taped the two little strips to the top and bottom..
(you can get a piece of wood to fit your mirror...but i was going for cheap...and the mdf was just that!
after the spray paint dried i used about 4 different kinds of gorilla glue to adhere the mirror in the center of the board...
I got this cork collection on MAJOR sell of a roberts that was going out of business (or maybe it was a michaels?)
I cut it up in to strips using my rotary cutter.
(which i would not recommend..i think it dulled by blade)
but it did make pretty quick work...
then i just hot glued them all the way around the edge of the mirror.
now. my plan was to paint the cork...and have it as a cork board frame...
but the cork was toooo thin.
onto plan B...
i took some pink fabric...
cut it into strips bigger than the frame...I hot glue the edges (my lazy way of "hemming" the fabric)
and i hot glued it as close to the edge of the mirror as possible...
then i took some stuffing cut a little big smaller than the frame...and hot glued that crap down in between
then I just stretch the pink fabric over the lip and ....you guessed it...hot glued it.
for the corners...i just went straight across (making sure that the fabric was tucked under aka hemmed)
then i just hot glued (then taped) that little piece of mdf left over and added a bracket to hang the mirror!
pj bottoms: old
shirt: kmart special ($2.50)
and that will probably be the last wiww....
that purple thing is such an eyesore....next up on the blog (not really)
a barbie holder:
what can i say? we are vain around here.
do you know how hard it is to take a picture of a mirror without getting yourself in it?
really hard...so i made my daughter take a picture for me.
I also thought it would look great on it's side with a couple hooks or knobs on it to hang your coats....choose a more adult fabric and this would look great in an entry way!
and you could also put a peg board behind it for a boys room
just make sure you make it stand away from the wall to get all the pegs and hooks in...
okay..and since we are on the subject of peg board..
i saw the inside of a pantry door was hung a peg board and all the measuring cups and spoons were hung on it.....spatulas....i think a few pots and pans....
it was awesome.
okay. we have reached the end of the random rant.
thank you for riding with agaagg air.
have a safe flight.
OH wow how awesome does that look, your awesome the mirror is awesome, one big ball of awesomeness lol! I think I might have to go and pick up that cheap eye sore mirror I was looking at but because it was so plain and ugly I thought NUP, BUT now I have something amazing to turn it into, thanks for sharing ;)

I've been thinking I want to do something very similar for my daughters room...but I was hoping to attach stripes of ribbon (1 across the top, the bottom and 1 down each side) to clip all of her hair stuff to.
ReplyDeleteSo super cute!! Not sure how to do my daughter's mirror yet. I love the pic of your daughter gleefully checking herself out in the mirror!!

ReplyDeleteI happen to love you and all your randomness!!!! I think its great, and I enjoy reading your blog so much! You have some of the greatest ideas. Also I would like you to know you are not the only one who does a "lazy hem" lol. I sooo do that!! I actually created an entire set of curtains with a piece of fabric, glue & glue gun, and some rustic/burlapish ribbon. That was a year ago and they still look AWESOME! Please keep it coming, cause I am addicted!
