so...i was going to post this forever ago....
but the pictures show my daughters gray wall..
so i thought I had better post the horse before the cart!
today we are making curtains.
and guess what.
i actually sewed them.
but I did use my agaaggyness and made them AS cheap as possible.
I used my daughters' top sheet.
yeah. we don't do top sheets. one more thing to do in the morning.
So i thought it would be more beneficial as a curtain!
I measured.....and cut it right up the middle.
since I cut it it down the middle...the outside edges were already finished...as well as the top and bottom. so all i had to do is sew in the chevron fabric...
hem the inside seam..
and fold over the top to make a casing for the curtain rod.
and cause my 3 year old does not know the value of sleeping in...I lined it with black out fabric.
(doesn't work though--she's still up at the butt crack of dawn...ie..8oclock.)
sorry..it's really hard to get a picture of curtains with the window and the glare...
to hang my new curtains...
I got these hooks at the dollar store
I was orginally going to use them to make this iron board holder from House of Smiths
(see? cute huh!)
but my curtains were a more pressing need
I shot them with a spray of white krylon spray paint
and then took some button embellishments and gave them a coat of gray...
then i just used my (dirty) hot glue gun right in the middle...
and hot glued them onto the wall.
yes..yes i did.
(and they hold up just fine)
(oh..and i painted the end of the curtain rods pink!)
and just cause i like to keep it real with you...
this is all the crap that i had to move out of the way of the curtains to get a good picture..
and if you are related to me...(on the stimpson side) i'm sure you've got some of these in your window! (love you gg!)
I love the color combination! I just might have to make some of these for my 3 year old daughter.
ReplyDeleteI love the pink and gray together!! this is so adorable :) and I love the way you do things :) Makes me feel better ;) and it all turns out fabulous!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Even better in person! Yes, every window in our home has GG's thingys!!! ;) Can you give me just a tad of your cleverness? mmmm thanks! (afterall we ARE sisters and its only fair and I'm older, and fatter, and have more kids and no time and....!!!!) :)
ReplyDeleteI love the curtains you made for your daughter room. I have a 3 1/2 yrs old that wake's up at 7am. We can block out the sun and she will still wake up. Holy cow, I have been sleep deprived for 3 1/2 yrs. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your post.
Blessings,
Vanessa
Those are adorable! You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteI detest top sheets! I believe their sole purpose is to strangle me in my sleep, so I'm pleased to see how you conquer them here! Love it!

I love these, they look so classy!
ReplyDeletelove the curtains!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! I love that you used sheets.
ReplyDeleteAnd, those darn black out curtains. They don't work for me either. I wish they came with a guarantee that your kid would sleep until at least 9:30.
OK. the curtains are, obviously, fabulous - especially due to the frugality. BUT. Spray painting those cheapo ugly hooks to hang the curtains instead of getting some expensive rod set? Hello, genius. (And I love that you hot glued them to the wall. I tried to hot glue a hook to my front door to hang wreaths on and it fell off. I was so depressed. I might have to use super glue.)
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love the curtains and way to go on sewing them! I love how you decided to hang them. So stinking clever. And if you care about my 2 cents, I would hang them just a bit higher...but then again, that's my taste. Regardless, I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I bought the paint for my daughter's room last night! She can't wait for me to get started!
ReplyDeleteTHOSE ARE AWESOME! Like the hooks too! I've been wanting to make a ironing board holder too.. On a long list of other things... Geez right!
ReplyDeleteLove the curtains. Love the blog! I absolutely love how honestly honest you are! Cracks me up. On other blogs I stalk, I only read "the meat" of a post but I can't help to read your WHOLE post every time, because I know I'll be giggling to myself the whole way through it! So keep it real- and keep it up. Love it!
ReplyDeleteHow creative! I love it!!!

I love the pink and gray together. Actually, I love anything with gray. The hooks are such a fabulous idea. You could even get another pair and make matching tie backs.
ReplyDeleteThis is not shameless self promotion I promise! But I don't use top sheets either and I couldn't buy just fitted so I made a tutorial to make a top sheet fitted. Just hoping it helps you like it did me

My husband has converted me from a top sheet user. He has huge feet and he says they restrict his feet under the covers. Now, when I travel, I always untuck the flat sheet so my feet have some freedom! He's ruined me for top sheets forever! My point? I've got a lot of them in pristine condition just waiting to be used for something as perfect as this! Thanks for sharing!

This is so adorable :) and I love the way you do things.

I love the way it turned out. I'm definitely going to use a top sheet as a curtain in the future. I never knew hot glue could hold up curtains!
ReplyDeleteOk, so no matter how many times I make my girls' beds up with a top sheet, after the first night it is scrunched down at the bottom under their comforter. Now that I know I am not alone, and because they NEED curtains, I am so ripping this off from you!!!! LOVE IT!! I will link to you as my inspiration when I FINALLY get around to making them ;)
ReplyDeleteTHANKS!

Gotta love chevron print fabric! They look super cute!
ReplyDeleteMy mom actually makes all of our curtains from the top sheet. None of us use it because we all get tangled in it.
ReplyDeleteIt's also nice to always have the perfectly matched curtain with the bed set because we get new ones like every 4 months. We get tired of the style so quickly.
