we are in full remodel in my girls room...and i was in need of a box to hold some of my daughter's treasures...
and couldn't find anything the right size for the right price (i.e....practically free)
enter postively splendid
she made this
but since i didn't want to knock her off...
i used a wipes box.
and i used my hot glue gun.....and didn't line it. so if you want an awesome tutorial...go to hers..
if you want the agaagg version (aka...really fast and cheap...maybe alittlesloppy..) stay here..then go to hers to compare how much awesomeers hers is.
I reinforced my box with another cardboard box.....i hot glued it and then taped the edges....
I found a ton of pink gingham in my stash (ten glue gun points for actually using fabric i had instead of using it as an excuse to go shopping)
then i just cut out the corners to get rid of a lot of bulk...
and then snipped it to the corners...
all 4 sides are done this way....
then I just started folding up sides and glueing the crap out of it.
I folded over the extra inches on the side and glued them too...(i glued alot)and then on the big side I hot glued the extra on the sides down first...then brought it up and glued it on...
my fabric didn't quite reach all the way down to the bottom...so i cut another cardboard piece....covered it with fabric and hot glued it to the bottom of the box...
and then i decorated it....cause that's what i do.
filled with treasures
she likes it....
Very nice! I'm with you on "fast & cheap". I did something similar using the box that holds capri sun juice pouches; except I covered them with scrapbooking paper. They were the perfect size to put on the shelves of my computer armoire. I use them to hold receipts, bills and other crap.
ReplyDeleteI saw those on Pinterest to and was wondering how I could incorporate them into my home. Great idea using the wipes box. It looks great!
ReplyDeleteI've been using diaper boxes to store hand be downs because they were really sturdy and could stack on the top shelf of the closet. I never thought to cover them. Great idea. Oh, and capri sun boxes are awesome - I may even have one in my cupbord now. YAY!
ReplyDeleteThis tutorial from Positively Splendid has been one of my absolute favs...maybe because it helped me not hate the sight of diaper boxes because they cost SO much...hahaha. LOVE how yours turned out!!!
ReplyDeleteI've collected all my boxes, have the fabric & supplied...and pretty much stopped there : )
That turned out super cute! I love the flowers on it.
ReplyDeleteSO CUTE!!!
ReplyDeleteI made something similar out of USPS shipping boxes and craft paper:

how funny...I just wrote a post on things to do with old diaper boxes to publish later this week and covering them and using them for organizing was definitely on my list! I used paper for mine and I now have like 5 in my closet. It definitely does help ease the pain of having to spend ridiculous amounts of money on the diapers!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. I have been using boxes plain as I didn't know where to start covering. Just wondering, if I did it the opposite way, like put the flat piece in the bottom of the box then glufrom the inside out, would it work the same? I guess I could always glue a co-ordinating border around the bottom if I misjudged.
ReplyDeleteDo you think that would work?
This has to be one of the best Ideas!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNice work! Sooo glad I don't have to buy wipes anymore. Spose I could use the boxes my wine comes in...
ReplyDeleteNICE!!!
ReplyDeleteI have like 100 diaper boxes in my garage.. now I know what I must do!
This turned out great! So glad you were inspired by my bins. :)
ReplyDeletegood idea... i'am gonna do it with my group of "de inloopochtend" and use for this purpose my empty washpowderboxes.

Love your take on this! You did an adorable job!
ReplyDeleteso cute! I saw the original on PInterest but I love this...easier and less work...I mean more my style...
ReplyDeleteI have totally fallen in love with you!!! I am a glue gun freak and absolutely live by the "fast, free, and sometimes sloppy" mantra, but until I read your blog I usually feel a little guilty that i don't bother with my sewing machine or take the time to "perfect" my projects! So thanks for making me feel justified in my approach! haha
