some ROBBED blog tips.

BLOGGIN ADVICE is everywhere...and although I think I know it all...i'm totally just acting. I always find a link that makes me double think something and opens my eyes...

so I'm featuring a few great blog tips.....with some added commentary!

crafterminds
her post is entitled 8 reasons to comment on my blog

this is one of my favoritest posts. EVER. we all love comments. and no matter if I get 2 or 52...i love them all. (and don't judge your blog on comments...ucreate only gets 2-3 comments and it's HUGE)

sometimes we are lazy. it takes time to leave a comment...

but IF YOU DO....

I will remember who you are. HONEST. I have some people who leave me sweet little comments all the time..I could list them all here from the top of my head...I develop a relationship with them. it's true. I feel like we are tight.

AND if I get a comment from a new reader...who has her blog in her title (or after her comment) I will click that button. it's like a moth to a flame. can't resist. I love to see what my followers look like (kinda like stalking) I have found loads of etsy shops through my reader's blogs....and cute ideas and projects and things that have made me laugh!

I have my comments linked up to my email...so I get every stinking one (even the ones that you delete..lol) (that is probably why it takes me SO long to go through my emails.)

and if I go over to your blog...and something stands out at me..you know if will end up on pinterest on my sunday shout out or facebook or twitter......which means traffic for you...

same as comments...if you put my button on your blog..i'm addicted to my stats button. and if you send people over to me..i will be over to check you out. (not a creepy in a tree with binoculars kinda way)

so let me ask you this....are comments important?

well...not as important as ...air....or maybe water. or blood.  or chocolate.

but I would say it's pretty darn important.

(hey...you know that widget that tells you who your top 10 commentators are? you can go HERE to put one on your blog)

ALSO...i found this great post on hope studios...called 10 things i hate about your blog
omg. it's true.

I know you love music. and I love it too..but if i'm trying to go through you blog and see what you got....and everytime I click on older posts the song stops...and starts over again. i GO MAD!
(I actually love other people's playlists

(i have one on the famdam blog) so I always will pop it out and listen and add songs to mine--so plllleaase just don't have it start automatically) (p.s. you can go HERE to listen to the grooves that speak to my heart.) (p.p.s. it's random. like country and rock and oldies and random. you know. like me.)

I found this awesome website icons etc. were you can find cute little icons....i always wondered how people got so creative neat icons.

tip junkie  has a loads of blog tips (are you a tip junkie. i am a JUNKie)  but their newest one

is great.
but one thing really popped out at me and I wanna  discuss it a little bit.

when I started my blog...I didn't tell anyone. I have been crafting for years....so I started by posting a few of the things I already had done until I had about 15 projects.....then I told people.
If I was going to have people "over" to my blog..I wanted them to be able to get a sense of what my blog is about!

so just this suggestion: get a great starting base before you spread your bloggy love.
I actually love getting links from people who just started a blog...it's so fun to see fresh new blogs..but i hate when there is only two links..and one is the "why I'm starting this blog" post.

just a thought I had in my mind.
now... don't be afraid to send me your new blog links...i visit each one!

how to grow your blog...
it's got nice little reminders I have mentioned once or twice...but I want to EMPHASIZE ONE:

please.....please....link up your email with blogger. I would you rather you have your playlists on automatic shuffle than not being able to shoot you an email back when you ask a question.

•Go to your blog and sign in.
•Click on "customize" up at the top.
•Click on "Dashboard" up at the top.
•Click on "Edit Profile" (second option down next to your profile picture).
•Check the box (third line down) that says "Show my email address."
•Scroll down a little.
•Make sure your e-mail address is entered in in the "Identity" section.
•Scroll all the way down to the bottom.
•Click "Save Profile."

it's so stinking easy.
like one minute.
here..i'll time you.
on your mark
get set.

go.

(seriously...go. i beg you. You will love it as much as I will as soon as you get a direct response from someone you asked  a question to!)

let's talk about making some MONEY!!!!

I'm slow on the computer.
takes me awhile to figure out if things are legit.
so I love when other people do the dirty work and then post about it so we can all reap the benefits.

just like my bbff mandi:

she shares some companies that will make you some money just by advertising on your blog.
great companies like rivit (which I just joined!)

and mandi says it best

"And in the policy of full disclosure I have not been asked or compensated by any of the above companies to blog about this subject. I just wish that someone would have showed me when I started!"
amen sister friend.
that's why i started this blog tips in the first place.

another fan fave of mine is cheri

and she shares her money making skills
(and about google analytics which is a must for serious bloggers.)
and (hint) I wish she would give a full tutorial on the google anayictals (i'm gonna leave that spelling mistake for you)  for us lesser smartish folks (hint)
i mean I TOTALLY get it.
but i just thought YOU -my readers-would want to know.
okay. i want to know too.

and let's end all this with some pinterest love

  3. I'm right there with you on comments...I'm working on growing a blog for my photography, and so far it's mostly just family and friends that see it. But after I add a new post (and put the link on Facebook a dozen times!) I stalk my own blog just waiting for new comments, even though they would be in my email if they were there! I have one great friend who comments on EVERY post, and even though she probably feels redundant, I appreciate it SO much!

  6. Great post! So true about the music but I feel that way about any website. Do you know how annoying it is to look up info on a restaurant and music is blaring.... at work.... and shortly I'll get bombarded with nosy questions.

  8. HA- I am commenting YEP' you like that! I know you do. WINKS!

I think commenting is ubber important, especially because it gives you a sense that the project you worked hard on and shared a detailed tutorial on ... was worth it. I mean you are taking the time to make something "original" too sometimes, taking pics. editing, blogging... so that lots can now reap the benefits too if they so choose. So I think its so nice when someone appreciates your hard work.

I agree with this post fully, I too will check out new peeps and see who they are what they look like and what their blog is all about when they comment, or when they are new, or even when they say stop by... I love that we can all support one another and that support is great.

I love that you shared that top 10 comment widget, I have seen it and wanted it. I now have it on my blog, so thank you. This blog post was so fun, and I love Pinterest too. Have a super day.

winks-jen P.S. did you like this NOVEL "comment" HA!

  9. Great post! And I couldn't agree more on the linking up of the email thing!

Another thing that drives me freakin batty is the darn word verification. I loathe that thing.

  10. Oh and since you love comments. You'll especially love this one. I featured you in my blog as the blog of the week! It would be a better honor if my blog wasn't SOOOO new. But I still think your blog rocks.

  11. Great post and great tips!

I am totally with you on the comment thing. My mother-in-law will call and comment over the phone. I ask her why she doesn't comment on the blog all the time. I told her she would be banned soon. ;)

  12. Ok, so we already know I'm slow (not realising about AGAAGG springs to mind) but I read blogs in google reader cos I stalk many people. I mean read...yes read. So I was reading this post and I thought, oh my goodness, who is this, she's so funny, she reminds me of Kimbo over at AGAAGG (see I understand AGAAGG now so can use it in polite conversations in my head). So I click on it, and it is you! Amazing.
Anyway, I also put my email address in now, went to Hope studios, read their post and put my blog address in my profile and all other cool things. Thanks, you're making my life better with every single post!

p.s. can we start a petition for some of these lovely earning ladies to teach us their knowledge? Kinda like yoda but I don't want to assume these bloggers are green and small and wrinkly with super hairy ears.
    Ok, ta, byeeeeee! xx

  13. Ok so I love how you say "I feel like we are tight" I feel the same way about blogs I read every day, like yours. Now, we have never met, but you live in Poky and I lived in I.F. until just recently and we moved to Utah, so for some reason that makes me feel close ya know, ya weird, I know, but when I am telling my husband about something on your blog, I am always like "this friend of mine..." and he's is like, "really, they are your friend or just a blog you stalk!" HA! Makes me feel better you kinda think the same way. ANYWHO.. awesome post, I am so wanting to start a blog but more for me to just document my crafts, but I am waiting until I have this baby, #5 due in a couple weeks, cuz for some reason I think I will have more time then, ya right! Ok now that I have written you a dang book, I just want to say you are awesome, don't change!!

  14. When I was at Creative Estates in April I was chatting with Kim (Today's Creative Blog) and Cindy (Skip to my Lou) and I asked them if they thought link parties were the best way to grow your blog- Kim adamantly said "NO!" when I asked her what the best thing was she said "commenting, hands down".
Thanks for this awesome post, Kimbo! I LOVE that random pic from your pinterest board, I'm still laughing!

  16. How wise you are. Thanks for the fun pictures to look at- I recently added you to my blog roll, but I forget how I found your blog in the first place... you were probably linked on someone else, and I started stalking you. That's all. Yay for comments!! I do really enjoy them... probably because only about 10 people look at my blog! Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I love comments!! I also get them to email and it makes me sad when I can't reply to someone. I love checking out other people's blogs, too. So fun!

  24. I completely understand what you mean about the comments! I have non bloggy friends and relatives who tell me that they are addicted to my site and visit it every day...but they never comment online!! I try to gently prod them to do so but so far no luck.

I agree with some of the others that when I see a post with lots of comments I often times will skip commenting because I figure they are usually to busy to reply or come visit my site.

But when someone comments on my site, I try REALLY hard to visit their site and leave a comment on their projects or email them back.

It's all in the learning and I am still small but trying to grow. Thanks for the tips!

  30. I have a tendency to post a blog right before I want to do a big project, my phone buzzes as I get new comments and it encourages me to keep going with the current project because I know people are giving me feedback on a prior project.

Comments make me feel like a rockstar, so I like to comment on other people a lot so they feel like rockstars too!!!

Do you feel like a rockstar yet?

  31. I recently started following your blog and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I was unsure aboutmy style of writing. 43. Since we are talking about comments I was wondering how you deal with responding to them. Do you respond to all of them? Do you have process you use to make it easier because I know that you get a LOT of comments. I never know what to do with my comments. Do I comment on the blog at the end of the comment thread or email them? What if there is no email? That is one thing I hate about blogger is no email in the comment form. Do I respond to all comments or just those with questions? I don't get tons of comments but I still have no idea how to deal with them - can you help?

PS I added you on Pinterest and I about died laughing at your board names. You have the best sense of humor!

  51. OK, so I totally get it now. I am newer to the blogging world (even tho I have one...about my daughter's special needs...and I suck at blogging....last post was like 2 months ago : ( Slapping my hand right now. and just because I know you are curious and like to picture stalk (and I like that you can admit that...I am still working on that 1st step of admitting : ) HA Here's the link: http://hope4haven.wordpress.com/

OK-but I have gotten off track. Yeah-what was my point. OH-that I feel like a stalker when I post comments all the time. But now...I will allow myself to stalk without wondering if the blogger is running a background search on me to make sure I'm harmless : )

AND...I added you to "my circle" on etsy...I have no idea what the circle etiquette is. My shop is brand new...haven't even announced it to my friends yet : ) just strangers...and well since you are strange...I mean a stranger, here it is, if you want to stalk it for just a second. And btw...I would be honored if you did. http://www.etsy.com/shop/beautifulhonor?ref=si_shop

SO...maybe I can become one of your tight friends...because of my stalking : ) LOVE your blog...which I think is less freaky than saying I love you : ) HA THANKS for the tips. You rock!

  52. Admittedly I went back and forth about commenting on this. I wanted to thank you for the great post (with some fabulous links), but then you mentioned that if I commented you'd come over to my blog and all that and then I thought I might look like I was only commenting so that you'd come to my blog. And that's totally NOT TRUE! So I decided to pretend that you didn't write that and instead just comment to tell you thanks for this great post and fabulous links. :) So ya. Love your blog! I have too many blogs subscribed in my google reader and often have to click "mark all as read" but I never do that to your posts because I ALWAYS enjoy them.
