what to do with those expensive roses that die.

so...i'm not trying to rub it in your face....

but remember these beautiful flowers husband bought me for v-days.

and i loved them.
and admired them..

and found the receipt in my car.

and passed out.

and woke up and thought...geesh.. that's alot of money to spend on something that dies.
(i think that about my husband too)

so i decided to come up with a little crafty craft to perserve these flowers so they have more than one use....

so i used a phone book and smooshed my petals...

i had this old oval mirror...so i took out the picture and  traced the shape on some paper and drew a heart as my templete...and wrote some words (and date) on it cause i didn't want to risk crushing my petals with my hand later...

and shot the frame with a little krylon in gray...
then took my second love (i say second cause my glue gun has never bought me roses) and worked my way around the heart with my roses...
overlapping as i go....

so pretty..i love a little reminder about that one time my husband loved me enough to buy me flowers.

(husband: hint hint)
(but let's buy them at walmart and save some money on them mkay?)
or better yet..buy me a gift card to joanns..
i'll be yours forever.
and i'll frame the card once i spend it all..

and guess what? this isn't my first rodeo with pressed flowers...i also made some bookmarks and cards HERE

  2. That's such a cute way to reuse them as well as remember how lovely they were (besides the lovely pictures.) Thanks for yet another great idea!

  3. That is a great way to save flowers and preserve the memory AND get a little more for the money that was spent.
My husband and I have a deal and, if he buys flowers, they come from Costco. That way, I know he won't pay a ton for them :)

  8. Very sweet idea. The cost of flowers for v day is insane. I get that v day falls in winter for you guys, but its the end if summer here and the roses are in bloom everywhere and the florists always bring out this story about expecting a shortage and that's why the prices have jumped. One of our news programs actually showed an identical story from the year before on the same date lol

  9. This is sooooo sweet!! I plan on doing this with flowers from my wedding bouquet that's been in the freezer since our wedding...oh this November will be 7 years. Lol, theHubs keeps threatening to toss them out, but he knows better. I actually have my bouquet and a bridesmaid bouquet, so space is kind of limited I do admit.

    Thank you for sharing!

  10. Love pressed flowers and I'm always looking out for creative uses for them. I made bookmarks for the kids recently with all the four leaf clovers we recently found. Love preserving memories. :)

  13. Too cute - and funny! And true about the expense - I asked hubby for a truckload of mulch next time, lol.

  14. That is probably the cutest thing I've ever seen done with roses. I always hate the thought of not Only the wasted money, but that once the flowers are gone.....the thoughts with them. I know we don't intend for this to happen, so this is a "Fantasmic" way to have the memory forever. Kudos Kimbo!

  15. Wall art is good idea!!! I saved ONE of my Valentines roses, dried it and stuck it in a vase in my bathroom. :) Way lazier than your pretty art!

  17. This is just lovely! I wish I would have been so lucky to come across this wonderful post earlier as I used to have a pretty flower from my great grandfather's funeral, it would have been perfect for that.

    Thanks for sharing!!

  18. Hey, love this idea! :D but where can I buy a frame like this? I know it was an old mirror, and I'm thinking of making my mom this but mirrors/frames are way to expensive..

    Please and thank you! :D
