carrots...purely for decoration...

i was looking at a shopko flyer and they had these curly metal carrots...and i thought...i could do that!
I had this metal sheeting..(same stuff i use for my menu boards and to redo my light fixture.)
and when you cut it real small it curls naturally..

(this stuff is about a dollar for this size... (called flashing at home depot)

so i spray painted it orange (and a strip green)

after a few coats and drying time..i grabbed my tin snips and cut strips..

and they will be sharp.
so wear gloves.
or buy some cute bandaids....
and that's why these are purely for decoration)
then i wrapped them around spatula (they didn't naturally curl like i had hoped...but easily bendable)

i overlapped it on top of each other and then pulled it out

then i just cut little strips of green and hot glued them to top...
makes a cute centerpiece..
or you could hot glue a dowel onto each of them and make a cute arrangement for your Easter table!

here's some more great carrot ideas...

and there are a whole slew of fun spring crap HERE at my pinterest board!

hope you all have a great easter!!!!

  1. I love those! They are "industrial cute" which is not a term you hear often! :D Did you have trouble with the paint scratching when you cut the sheet metal?

  2. So cute. I'd be afraid of cutting myself on the metal. Should I be?? :)

  4. I saw the metal carrots and thought I wonder if soda cans would work. I played around with it on one can for 5 minutes and it worked. The can be cut with scissors on a spiral to make longer ones or use tall cans like Arizona Ice Tea. It isn't as sharp as sheet metal but take care or wear gloves because you can cut yourself. They aren't as heavy duty as sheet metal but hopefully nobody will be messing around with them anyway.
