sytyc edible

so this little treasure got me kicked off SYTYC. Thanks. Thanks a lot.  In all actuality....thanks for all the support and love! I had a great time!!! good luck to those who are still in and YOU can still go and vote! you can do it right now....or right after you read the rest of this post.....

So this week on sytyc is edible.
Why am I showing you a purse? Maybe I sewed it in my kitchen? does that count as edible? (she did say you can interpret it loosely)

Maybe that's just a little too loose.

or maybe not.
INGREDIENTS:
3 cow tail candies
3 laffy taffys
1 Box white cake
1 box fondant
1 can icing.
brown food coloring

(please note: the keys and phone are not edible.....for staging purposes only!)

Start with one white cake

cool completely. Turn over onto a cookie sheet or cooling rack

cut into half

frost one side and stick together.
Stand up...with cut sides down

trim to make the top even
(no picture! sorry!)

here's a picture of my scraps instead

"dirty ice" Learned that phrase from ace of cakes

If you want to stick in sticks to make it sturdy now is the time to do that.

Took my fondant ($3 with my Joann coupon)
rolled out according to directions
laid over cake

looks like a ghost.

Oh, and I have to tell you I thought it looked an awful lot like a toaster at this point....so if my purse failed...it was going to be made into a toaster.

smoothed it out...cut around the base and used the scraps to make a flap
(which I attached on using some leftover frosting from my dirty icing job.)

took this bottle of food coloring ($1 with my Joann's coupon)
used a paint brush and a little water and started painting.

Added some strawberry air heads for decoration

yes, originally there was a ruffle that just didn't quite look right
(heat up airheads for like 5 seconds (not tooo long) and they are quite pliable!)
I took cow tails

and braided them

I made these the night before in hopes that the rope would harden..it did not. but it just added some sticks to keep them in place.

so nice

it's all a scam. I'm so messy.

but it taste sooo good. Worth it.

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way a baker. What I have learned is from watching Ace of Cakes, Cake Boss and Food Network Extreme Cake Challenge. My procedure is probably not correct--but I am not trying to sell this cake. It went from this photo to my tummy.

  2. That is too cute! Not a bad job at all. I do NOT have the patience for cake decorating, so I am suitably impressed. :)
