Beach HAT

A new twist on beach hat. this one has a wire in the brim so it's adjustable.

Start with 4 pieces
pin them altogether and sew. (I used an old beach hat to measure the size)

when it's all sewed together it should look like this

for the brim I cut out giant circle

used a bowl to get a perfect circle in the middle.
(does that circle look familiar...I used it for this project:

waste not want not.

cut two of these circles

sew them together (right sides together)

leave an opening to put the wire through.

iron the edge so it's nice and crisp
I sewed around about 1/2 inch from the edge.

pin on the top to the circle brim

sew around

when it's all done it was a bit floppy

took some wire

slipped the wire through

then I hand stitched that opening closed.

Added some embellishments ( I just used my daughters hair clips flowers.)

I tried to get my daughter to be the model...but the hat didn't quite fit her head...so it looked al little funny

so I had to actually model it myself...which I really HATE doing.

You can adjust the brim to whatever way the sunshine is shining..or whatever side of your face is your better side.

ladies and gentlemen...we have reached the end of water week.  Go and dry off.

  1. Wired brim, excellent idea! Back in the sixties these hats were oh so popular even without the wired brim, see how everything comes around? Love the color and the how tos, very clever.
