my name is kim and i'm addicted to t-shirt fabric.
it's awesome..and stretchy. and doesn't fray.
and i really wanted to try one of these t-shirt scarfs...
so i did.
(every friday is spirit day at my daughters school and they are supposed to wear orange and/or black...so we made this scarf so she could still be in style AND have school spirit.)
it's so easy.....you cut a whole bunch of strips....and pull the ends...it naturally curls up.
and sew (or hot glue the ends together.....)
then i dyed it..(you could do this first..) i wanted a little variation in the pieces so i pulled out strips randomly so there were some light and dark ones...
after i washed it...i layed them all out even and trimmed the edges.
and bring the other side around...
then hot glue like crazy
and wrap it like a burrito
i added a braid or two before i hot glued it together..i also twisted it a little....
i totally had to put this picture...she was silently cursing me. somedays she loves posing...and somedays she hates that i'm a blogger. it was the latter day.
she's so disgusted with me....
anyways..you can wear this scarf with the ends showing...
or double it up....
here are some other beautiful examples of what you can do:
fancy twists:
bunch of little braids:
one big braid:
fancy twists....
half braid half strips.
tied up at random spots...
cut it out like a cinnamon roll
fringe it...
multiple fabrics...
i've seen a lot of t-shirt scarf tutorials on the 'net and even tried to make my own. (it looks like a creepy closet monster, not a pretty wearable thing that could have come from a designer shop). anyway, yours is the first tutorial that actually makes me think i can turn the closet monster into something stunning. THANK YOU for a well-written, photographically amazing dose of saturday inspiration :D
