let's have a chat...did you know that september is Hunger Action Month?
AND did you know that 50 million Americans won’t know where their next meal will come from at some point this year—that’s ONE IN SIX Americans. --i don't know about you...but that is crazy! one in six! i don't think i realized what a problem it really is! i was recently talking to a teacher in our school district and she was telling me how they have to send some kids home with backpacks full of food for the weekend or else they will go hungry. and how some kids constantly are shoving food in their pockets cause they just don't know when the next time they will have food will be! It made me incredibly sad! and I really wanted to be able to help in some way! and luckily Walmart has made it really easy! Walmart will work with customers, suppliers and associates nationwide to donate up to 53 million meals to Feeding America and give $2.5 million for hunger relief.
Through October 12th, customers will be able to generate meal donations for Feeding America by purchasing select products from participating food suppliers (General Mills, Kellogs, Unilever, Kraft Foods, and ConAgra Foods) at Walmart stores (you can find the "Fighting Hunger Together” signs) and following instructions on the packaging--these are all things that i already buy! click here and scroll down and click on any of these logos and it will show you all the foods!--i mean with kraft food i am already buying the jello, the mac and cheese and the veleveeta! and the general mills is fruit snacks and cereal and hamburger helper!
we can all work towards Fighting Hunger Together!!!
Also, you can participate in the Golden Spark promotion for a chance to win $50K for your community! Walmart will randomly award 40 “Golden Sparks” valued at $50,000 each to consumers who participate in the Fighting Hunger Together Golden Spark Promotion. The winners will choose a community to receive the funding to start or expand a backpack program that provides vital meals to food-insecure children during weekends when they do not have access to free- and reduced-price school meals! that would make such a difference!!!!
get involved in the fight by going to Golden Spark promotion
thanks to walmart for all they do! and please leave a comment and share a personal story about a time you have either experienced hunger, or have helped someone else who has experienced hunger. By sharing these personal stories, we can all understand why helping those who are hungry is so important and makes us much more aware of the problem!!!!
I'm Australian, 50 million people is more than twice our entire population! That is not something we could imagine as a statistic for America. It's great these companies are working together, but that number has just floored me!
ReplyDeleteOnce my husband & I were both let go from the same company, who had gone broke. No entitlements 3 kids at the time, we ate a lot of beans & desperately searched for any job. Not a fun time!
It is a shame...I will shop at Walmart and look for these products.
ReplyDeleteI hear of a family through our church who were in need of groceries..I had so much fun shopping for them. They appreciated it and I shared this experience with my DIL. She has never seen anything like this.
