styrofoam frames...

so, like the 95% of people, i have my kids names up on their wall.

and the before had a big heart around them...

and after i gave them a shot of duel paint and primer by krylon (love this stuff)

i stuck them up on the wall i thought they looked a little bare....

i thought a nice big frame around them would look great.

and i um..was too cheap to buy not one but two big frames.

and of course the thrift stores have nothing just cause i needed it....

so i took some big huge pieces of styrofoam and made my own...
measure out about 2 inches....(any thinner and i think you might bust the styrofoam)
 make sure you letters fit.
and chop it up!!!! knives are fine...turkey cutters are awesome...(then check again to make sure the letters fit!)

then i took some leftover fabric from my curtains and started wrapping it...
you want to do one on one side..then do right across from it...and work your way down so you get a nice tight wrapping....
and
hot glue works just fine..doesn't melt the styrofoam!
for the corners I snipped off the edge
and folded it and glued it down...
 both are done!
hot glued directly to the wall....
and then hot glued the letters directly inside...

super fun and makes these bare little letters look more at home....
(looks so lonely..i've since added a painted headboard and butterflies!)

  1. Very cute! I have a question about the "hot glueing to the wall.." I tried it and it took off the paint? Is there a secret to this process?

  2. wow! I love that you hot glue directly to your wall :o) I grew up in a log home and my mom stapled gunned everything right to the wall. Every year or so she would pay us a penny per staple to go around and take down the old ones :o) Reminds me of a fun childhood memory, thanks for sharing :o)

  4. It never would have crossed my mind that you could hit glue directly to the wall. Does it cause much damage?

  5. That's really cool How did you covered the frame with pink paper? did you glue them? Can spray mount be used on that frames to add more design such as florals?

  6. Styrofoam balls come in a variety of sizes and make an appropriate base for do-it-yourself Christmas ornaments. You can select fabric of any texture, color or print to cover the Styrofoam balls. Folding the fabric and pinning the squares to the ball will create a jagged, pine cone-like effect that is seasonal and attractive. Once you complete the pinning, simply attach fishing wire and an ornament hook to the ball to finish the project.
