(this would have been awesome to post BEFORE spring break...but that requires thought and preparation..and i possess neither.)
me and the husband aren't great road trippers...
well. let me rephrase.
husband isn't...
he literally (said like rob lowe in parks and rec)
falls asleep like this (just snapped my fingers)
i mean he fell asleep once as he was bringing a chip up to his mouth to eat it.
true story.
so his suckyness has made me a sucky one..cause i don't dare take my eyes off him while we drive.
so we come up with games to keep us entertained... (my husband does weird math equations...but i don't count that has a game...)
simple mind simple pleasures..
and the one we play the most is...
this is the one from our last road trip.
we write down numbers 1- 50 and then take turns filling in the states.
and unless you know the song..
it's harder than you think!
and i thought...i should make any easy printable ...and then share it...
and after we get done filling in the states..we go back and try to fill in the capitals.
and holy. we go like 20 out of 50.
you can get a printable HERE (I included the answers too..but don't use them unless you are really stuck)
and you can print out this usa...and see if you know where they all go (i don't. i can name them but i have not clue about all those states packed in the east...)
you can also go HERE and print out these fun printables and keep track of all the license plates you will see...
(and there is this also a great abc one)
or you can take your favorite board game on the road with you...
and this great treat container..perfect for travels
ladies..this is a dvd case! brilliant. credit goes all HERE
cheri also made a list of 10 fun things to do a on a roadtrip (love that one with the car that you move so your kids can see how long it takes!)
remember that old sheet i painted..this would be perfect for travel...
and you could even take some puzzles and add magnets
and mom's minivan has loads of fun printable games...just laminate or put in a sheet protector and use a dry erase marker and it use it again and again.
and we used these printables last time we went further than walmart...
or you can make this travel binder and keep your crap all in one place....
and remember my obsession with altoid mints tins? they would be perfect for on the go!
and i think this ideas is a life saver for car trips...
if you are good..the clip stays up..if you are naughty....the clip comes down and if you clip is down you miss out at the next stop (like no treat at the gas station) etc.
brilliant mom.
These are all wonderful ideas. Thank you so much for sharing. Unfortunatly I can't use any of them on our 4 HOUR ROADTRIP we are taking tonight. We are leaving once the little one goes to sleep. Luckily she sleeps great in her car seat!
ReplyDeleteOne game that I love to do on a road trip is play the ABC game. Using anything outside of the car (signs, other cars, etc.) you have to find each letter of the alphabet. The harder ones are Q and X, so if we spot them before it's time, we "save" it.
ReplyDeleteI love these other games you've introduced though. Anything to break away from technological dependence!
Great ideas. My kids always just watch a movie in the car. It would be great to get away from that a little.

Lots of fun idea! I like the printable! That way you take your printables with you and as soon as someone says they're board, BAM! Slap em with the map! Ok... maybe not slap... ;)
ReplyDeleteI know the state song, so I would clean up, haha. Capitals though? need a song for that too :) Thanks for the great ideas!
ReplyDeleteWe are going on a road trip this summer so this is perfect! Thanks!
ReplyDeletePS- Washington's capitol is not Seattle
I just came across your blog looking for road trip ideas... I literally LOL'ed when I read that your husband does weird math equations while driving because my husband does the exact same thing. haha I don't get it either! :)
