diy skinny jeans...

i have some boot leg pants...and i like my boot legs long. and these weren't super long.

so i decided to trim the inseam and make some skinny jeans...

cause-- i don't know about you--
but i can NOT find skinnyjeans i like.
they are either tooo skinny..
or just glorified stretch pants...
and here's a random fact about me..i have fat calves..so some skinnies i can't even get past my knees.....
so i love the idea of making your own!
(and mine are not too skinny)
i've decided that i don't mind modeling from the knee down....

i have no before shots...but these are very fitted...except for the flare...
so it's just a little adjustment..not a major overhaul!

i turned them right side in and put them on...then just pinched and pin the excess material so i don't make them toooo skinny.

and then i stitched..i started at the knee and then flared out gradually.....(i stitched three times just cause levi  is so heavy duty) then i trimmed off the excess...

i like doing it on the inside cause it's less noticeable.....

this is in front of my garage....
and ps. my neighbors think i'm crazzzzy!

or you can use THIS tutorial...that is for more drastic size change...

and you can go HERE to learn how to hem your jeans if they are too long...

or add a cute quilted look if the pants are too short...

or take in the side if you've got that bulge of material that sticks out when you bend over...

or what about a hole? fix it with a monster patch!

so no matter what your levi problem...there is a way to fix it...

and if not..
chop it up and make an apron!

  1. I'm glad you posted this. I have big hips and thighs and have a hard time fitting into skinny jeans i have a pair of flares that would be perfect for this that i am going to have to try.

  4. Cute! They look fantastic. I might have to do this with a pair of my maternity jeans. Maybe I have large heals, but it's always a pain to get the bottom of skinny jeans over my feet.

  5. i can't wear any boots that go up to my knees because i can't even pull them up....and i'm too cheap to buy the "fat calf" boots! too much gymnastics for me when i was a kiddo, they are rock solid and HUGE! :)

love this post, i need to do this with some of mine. i have a couple of pairs of skinny jeans but they are too tight in the thighs. where i also have problems. HAHA!

  7. Too cute! I am ridiculously tall. Like 6 foot tall woman here! Whoa. So I buy long pants and I swear they shrink after 6 months of drying. I have a whole box of pants I'm going to turn skinny!

My husband thanks you for all of the money you just saved us too :) Who needs to buy skinny jeans when you can use your old ones!

  8. i LOVE this idea. So much. Skinny jeans never fit me right at all. I have thin legs and average sized hips, and no behind what-so-ever. I buy my boot leg/straight leg jeans based on how they fit on my ass and thighs. i'm going to have to try this!

  11. Awesome!!! I have a few pairs of too short boot cuts and I have cankles and I'm not embarrassed to tell you so ;-D.

Oh, and if your neighbors think you are crazy, mine think I'm certifiably nuts as I do video tutorials talking to myself in front of the garage! LOL!

  12. looks like the skinnies are now a classic, and not a trend.

thanks for the tutorial. i have a cute dark wash pair from the gap with cute pockets that are bootcut and shredded at the bottom...

did you have to change the needle on your machine to a denim weight one?

  14. Um, I have the same issue with my calves. I just found a pair of boots that work for me and I wanted to of course wear my jeans tucked in and had actually thought of doing this very thing, but hadn't. Now that I read your post I know I'm on the right track and will absolutely do this. Thanks for sharing and motivating me! Visiting from Tattertos & Jello ... I also posted there this week.
