bracelets

anytime i make a baby girl present...i always throw in one of these baby bracelets...cause they are super fast to do...and ohmygoodness so cute. something about teeny weeny things makes me happy (i have this little tiny bottle of A1 in my cupboard. it's just so cute!

so i thought i would give you a basic rundown of how i make them. they are super easy to make and you just need a few things....

here's a view of the crimp beads close up..they look just like regular beads...and here are my closures...(there is so many out there you can pick whatever you prefer!)

the elastic i have here is big...i had to buy bigger crimp beads so just make sure that the crimp beads and elastic fit together! (you don't have to use elastic...i like a little stretch in my bracelets though)

disclaimer...i made these pictures BIG so you could see the details.
don't judge my manicure.(or lack thereof)

you take your elastic (cut to size...i always cut bigger though cause i don't ever want to be short!) and add your crimp bead
then take your clasp and run it through the opening...
then you are going to make a loop and turn the ends and stick them back in the crimp bead

then you move the crimp bead right up as close to the clasp as possible. take your needle nose pliers and pinch the crimp bead (or CRIMP the crimp bead)
i pinch it til i can't pinch no more!
then i just started stringing beads...i bought these silver open flowers from joanns which they can be used normal...but i decided to add a bead in the middle...
for the baby sized (like newborn) before i add the final piece it's about 9 centimeters...so probably 10  all together....

but you know.....babies vary. (that just makes me giggle. yes, babies vary quite a bit) some come out all chubby wubby and some come out early and are little peaweas. (kid number 2 and kid number 3) so some bracelets might fall clear up to the elbow...and some might look like they are cutting off the babe's circulation. so go ahead and adjust as needed... (and that's always why i use the elastic..)
and then to close it...add another crimp bead...

 string it through the closure...
and go back in down through the crimp bead
pull so the crimp bead and all the extra elastic is tight so the beads are tight in a row and crimp the bead...

(not a real baby)

you can use the same method to make a binky clip
you just need to add an alligator clip and ...um..these things
this is just an old one of my daughters i stuck back in my bead box so i could reuse the beads
alrighty...there you have it. the very basic of basic jewelry making.
don't expect anything from me beyond these skills.
i'm not bev.

  1. I am so glad you posted this! I received a jewelry kit for Christmas and I had no idea what to do with it! And Crimp beads? Yeah, no clue what those were for. I just tied knots which always come apart and aren't nearly as neat looking. Now, I am off to go make some jewelry!

  2. How cute are these Kim?! I love the idea - I've never made baby bracelets. Such a sweet gift idea!
Also - have I said you are the best? Oh- yes. On Sunday.
    Well you are. :)

  3. I've used crimp beads + elastic before and the powerful smushing of the crimp beads have torn right through the elastic. Not immediately, but after a few uses when I put it on it just snapped and the beads flew everywhere. Any idea how to fix that? Or are crimp beads and elastic a forbidden match?

  4. Really cute bracelets, but.... (sorry I was a daycare teacher for too long not to say this).... most of the beads at JoAnns are not marked for content, so the metal ones are probably plated and who knows what under that. Little ones put things in their mouths and this could lead to lead poisoning. Additionally, the bracelets pose a choking hazard, and not only if the come undone! While that is a worry, if the child manages to pull the bracelet off the wrist, they could choke on the bracelet as a whole - same for the binky click thingy. General rule is, if it fits in the diameter of a film can, don't give it to an infant/toddler. So, the bracelets are cute for photo ops, but after that, please put them up in the baby book!
