kaarl's' twine ball thing...

so  sometimes i'm in a hurry and just slap a title on and upload the pictures real fast. then i come back (like weeks later)....add words, tweak it, and spell check it. and get it ready to post (i literally have 85 posts in my drafts. 85.

and this time i thought i would leave the title.
and yes. karl is spelled wrong.

I made this one the same time i made this thing. (remember the paper lanterns of death for my daughter's room?)
(tutorial is HERE)

but i didn't use yarn...i use this sisal stuff..found at the dollar store
thankyouverymuch. (i used two of them)
and made this flour water paste thing.....
i literally threw the whole ball in....covered it all up and just pulled the string and it just rolled around in the goo...
i used a punch ball...which while i was doing it, seemed pretty big. but once hung up....i could have gone bigger.
and then put it in the sun to dry (oh sun, how i have missed you)
after it was dry and i popped the punch ball and got rid of all the flakes of flour-- I cut a hole in the top to fit my hanging light fixture down inside.
(fyi, this used to be a lamp that broke beyond my craftyness ability to repair) but i saved the lightbulb part...not knowing when i would use it...)
but you can buy a light fixture at home depot for pretty reasonable.

anyways...i slipped the lightbulb down inside and then pulled it up out of a whole right next to it....(the hole is not really visible from the top)

i used a couple of hooks to hang.....

i also found this great post wtih some fun ideas using veneer and embroidery hoops...
you can go HERE to read all about it...

  2. I love this idea! I'm thinking of making a couple of these kinds of lanterns, but using a different "medium" for each. Then put them all together for a chandelier effect. What do you think?
