Stuffed animal scarf: For the stuffed animal lover/ slash cold weather liver.

Not like body part liver, like where you live. Okay. dumb title. I know. but I have to say I am so stinking excited about this project! so fun

back story (cause I'm a talker--)
my daughter loves stuffed animals. I have never been a fan (barbies on the other hand....!) anyways. I was slowly sneaking them out and putting them in the DI (thrift store) pile. Cause why would you need loads of stuffed animals? needless to say, she found them. and cried. and acted like life would never be the same if she didn't have her stuffed animals back..(the ones that have been missing for a good month and she hadn't noticed!) I told her I wasn't giving them away...I was going to make something special for her (LIE.) I was trying to defuse the situation. (she's a whiner...and would have whined until she had them all back and then she would have made sure they were never missing again!) Silly me though cause she will never let me forget things...she has kept asking, have you done anything with my stuffed animals yet? So, being the good mom that I am (okay, totally afraid of another freak out) I made something with her stuffed animals.......

okay, more back story..(yes, I know! You can skip this part....it doesn't have anything to do the tutorial..)

remember when I was on SyTYc? And I got booted. Like two weeks before animal week...and three weeks before recycled week...well this is what I was thinking about making. BUT I was on the fence cause you don't think scarfs until it's freezing cold (like um NOW) and SYTYC was in AUGUST...so anyways. Just wanted to point that out.

but first I started with a blanket....an old soft baby blanket.

I cut it in half..

and sewed them together so it's super long

all connected...now fold over and pin up the side

all pinned and ready to... 

SEW!!!

when it's all sewed up...turn it so the right sides are out...

the ends will be open..leave them that way.

okay...enter stuffed animal....(let's talk about the horrible pictures...I am totally sneaking this and doing this at night cause I don't want my daughter to FREAK OUT!)

prep the patient for surgery. (When picking a stuffed animal...I find the ones that are laying on their bellys look a little better!)

insert scapel (scissors) into the middle of patient...

and cut all the way around. (this hurt me more than hurt the dog)

take out the middle stuffing (leave the legs and head still stuffed)

place top part of the pup into the whole of the scarf and pin...and then sew it up across.

do the same for the bum....sew it  up.

and there you have it. One old blanket. One old stuffed animal..equals one new, super soft and warm and cuddly scarf.

this scarf is for my 7 year old daughter..so it looks a tad big on my two year old. but I've got to do what I've got to do to keep a surprise!

Now, I went to the D.I. (thrift store) and found a whole aisle dedicated to poor little unloved stuffed animals..and most of them were priced at 75 cents...so I snagged a few

and I went to my local craft store...and they had walls of cuddle fabric (the softest most loveable (it's like pillow pet soft...I just kept petting it.. (and expensive {but it was on sale})

(this was not Joanns...Joanns has cuddle fabric but our Joanns has about 8 bolts of it....everything you see in this picture is  cuddle...and there is a wall you can't see... (you can also use an old scarf....or fleece...or a baby blanket!)

So I got 12 inches of each
my next victims.....

I made them the same way....just folded the 12 inches in half so the scarf is 6 inches wide (smaller with a little seam allowance)

pin and sew....

and then turned it right side out and attached the gator...

 and then I made some cow ones...okay, I might be a little obsessed! They are funnest thing to make! I have been wanting to use cuddle fabric forever...but didn't want to make blankets...and since it was expensive I didn't want a HUGE project...so these little guys work perfect! I couldn't decide which cow to use...so I bought them both and bought two different kinds of black and white and mixed them! These would be so cute for twins....(just saying!)

sorry, I'm sitting by my kids door waiting for them to go to sleep...so I'm playing around with Picnik!

okay...so do you think I can pull one off? cause I want one...what's an adult stuffed animal that I can wear around my neck?
