we are getting ready for school....by going OLD school

in honor of my kids going to school tomorrow (i thought this day would never come!!!) i thought i would be nostalgic and bring back some of the fun crap from my youth (i'm a sucker for youth crap. i have a whole pinterest board devoted to it and if i run across this i would buy it in an instant.

I've been giving them a crash course of my school days...that would not be complete without mash.

i mean...i only married my husband cause i did mash and his name was the only one left (fate)...still waiting for my mansion and my pet mule.

i made a free mash printable for you HERE
and you can go HERE for a black and white version

kim at 733 also made an awesome mash--but she assembled it into a notepad (even more awesome than me i'm afraid to admit! go HERE!)

i'm also teaching kids that before facebook...and twitter...and text...and cell phones...if you wanted to talk to your friends...you WROTE it down...on paper. with a pen.

and then you folded it all fancy like

you can go HERE for refresher course in how to fold these fun notes

and if you were REALLLY cool..you wrote this on your notes:

and we also walked uphill both ways to school...without shoes. in two feet of snow.

(speaking of my youth...did you know that sheldon's girlfriend on the big bang theory and the girl that played blossom are the same person! whoa! (said in joey's voice)

  1. Oh my goodness!! This is the greatest trip down memory lane. I loved playing MASH with friends. I always hoped I'd get to end up with Zach Morris from Saved by the Bell, but I think real life did me one better! ;)
Man, now I need to turn on the Elephant Show and get out my Lisa Frank collection!

  4. How could I not of known Blossom and Sheldons girlfriend were one of the same but looking at the photos it's so obvious.
Have never heard of MASH here in the UK x

  5. Did you sign notes to friends with things like a huge "S" and wrote beside it "Sorry So Short" or a huge "L" and "Longer Letter Later"? Slam books? Write letters in circles and squares or write the words backwards so they'd have to read it in a mirror?

I'm such a sucker for old school nostalia. :) I still write love notes to my husband with this goofy stuff just to make him laugh.

  6. I could not love you any more than I do right now.

I'm going to print out my MASH right now.

I'm still waiting on my dang red lamborghini.

  8. instructions: you pick three of each thing..then your friend picks one horrible one that you would never want. than they start drawing the circle cinnamon roll shape and you say stop. then you count across the lines..(let's say it's 5) then you go count to five on your paper and every fifth thing gets crossed out. you keep going until you only have one left of each thing and then your future is REVEALED! (use the mash initials for mansion apartment, shack, house.)

  9. LOVE this post! I still have some of the notes that my friends wrote to me in school, packed away in a box of high school memories. I was so good at making the big "S" and actually still use that method if I am making free hand big bubble letters :) And Big Bang - love it and Amy (sheldon's girlfriend) makes me laugh so hard! Perfect person for the part!

  10. MASH - oh my! How about the paper fortune tellers (you know the ones you fold and then lift the flaps)? Lisa Frank stuff was the best and Mrs. Grossman's stickers. But NOTHING topped scratch 'n' sniff stickers!

  11. We played MATCH which is similar only you write MATCH at the top, 5 boys on the right, any 5 numbers on the bottom (number of kids you have) and 5 of something else that I can't remember on the other side. Spiral in the middle is the same but MATCH stands for where you will live (Mansion, Attic, Toilet, Cottage and House).
