sometimes i get bored..

not like i have nothing to do...the last time i had nothing to do was 2003... but like bored like you don't want to do what you are supposed to....

and so i was watching good luck charlie...
and then it hit me...
i need to go to the dentist...
but not that..
i need a chalkboard wall...

and i just happened to have chalkboard paint...

and a wall.

and a paintbrush...

and after three coats and a good rubbing of chalk...
let us ignore the mess...i did clean it up....but this wall is realllly hard to get a good picture of!and the paint was so worn on it and really needed a touch up and i don't have the original paint color so this was a perfect solution!

see that craft pile under the window. geesh. what a mess. someone should really clean that up.

(i taped the sides to give a nice crisp edge)

i have free reign over the top half.....
have i told you the story of my calendar?
it's the one present i let my husband have free reign for christmas.
i just need a calendar..he can pick whatever he wants.
and the first year, i for sure thought i was going to get a dallas cowboy cheerleader one
(which i would have been okay with cause i would have sharpied those girls all up with mustache and hair coming out of weird places...
but i got a beautiful calendar of gardens around the world.
(?)
i mean it was beautiful but the last three calendars i have bought myself were...
pixar movie sketches
Marilyn monroe
and
a chuck norris one...

so i thought i was going to be getting something along those lines...
but he buys me these beautiful ones.
like he's trying to make me grow up or something....

and the bottom half is an entertainment factor....(which is much needed during this spring break)

some words:
i have heard if you have any texture to not use the chalk markers cause it will get in the grooves and never get out!

and...it's chalkboard. you will have a crazy amount of chalk dust. mine is on my kitchen floor so i don't care a simple sweep up...but if you are doing it in a bedroom with carpet..i would try to make a little lip underneath to catch some of it!

my sister made one and framed it out and added a little box and the bottom to hold the chalk and eraser (and chalk mess!)

  3. I made my own chalkboard paint and put one in my new craft space. My kids LOVE it and use it all the time. And I find it handy when I need to write down a quick measurement too. :) The dust for sure falls! I figured that going into it and am OK with that. I just wipe up the dust off the baseboard and we're good to go. I've been considering adding a small piece of molding at the bottom... maybe I'll give that a go. :) I love how you just do your projects. What's your hubby say when he gets home? Mine just rolls his eyes and walks away. LOL.

  8. I always wondered about the chalk dust, which is what has stopped me from putting one anywhere. I thought about maybe doing it in the garage, or going with that new dry erase paint.. I love yours though. The scallops make it!

  14. And when I wanted to do this in my home here, my husband was definitely the big 'not a good idea' person! I'm glad I can live vicariously through your spontaneous adventures! This was what I envisioned for our pantry door. So-instead I just installed an old antique one....making it look funky, I still win! :) muahahaha!

  15. We put chalkboard-plastic film on one kitchencabinet. So our small kids paint and we write our shopping list on it :) It was one of our best diy-ideas the last year! :)

    Love your blog!

  16. We had a chalk board as children and when it got really 'used' we cleaned it with a sponge and water. Also you can find low dust chalk which is great. This is a great idea. I think my kids would love this. It is also great to use for writing tasks to do. When the kids have done it they can erase it.
