craft organizer

alrighty! welcome to organization week...remember two weeks past (or maybe it was 3 weeks on sytyc the theme was organization..? well. i made one thing..
them made another....

then made another. don't ask why i went all hog crazy. but the three things are all pretty similar in tutorials...they all use plastic...they all have binding...(and on top of that i had a project saved since before christmas in case i couldn't come up with anything)

SO...first up is the craft organizer:

i have this hutch..

and well...my craft crap is literally overtaking the living room.

so i thought it would be the perfect place to start ....

i bought all this fun fabric (for another project..but had enough for both!)

you might remember this from my levi apron....but BINDING...you take a strip (mine are about 3 inches)...iron in the sides... and then iron them together!

(you will need this tutorial for again so remember it!)
now, some of you  mentioned you were scared of sewing with the plastic vinly stuff....never fear! i had zero no problems with it. (but i find this great pinterest pin hint about sewing with it...

yup, add some tape!

okay. to start..i literally gathered all the craft stuff that i wanted included in...and laid it out...then i cut strips of vinyl to size and added a strip of the binding to the top...and pinned them in place where i wanted them.....

each piece as a little gathered area so the pockets hold a little more....

i just pinched less then a half inch and pinned..top to bottom.

just one right in the middle...

this will just make the opening wider (you won't want to do this on you ruler..or pens...but bigger and bulky things...)

i got it all laid out...and pinned on...and sewed (it should go without saying..but i will say it anyways..make sure NOT to sew the top opening!

once it was all ready to go..i reinforced the back with felt (just cut to size)

and then pinned some binding all the way around the edge and sewed it on... (like a border)

then i rolled over the top an inch and half and sewed...

and added a dowel to the top to help keep the shape...

and added a little strap to hold it up

then you just fill it up with you most prized posessions....

and when company comes over you --just close the doors and act like you aren't a big crafting mess..
