i've ignored the reminder and have been editing my pictures like april 19th is never going to get here.
but i've decided i am going to be up a creek if i don't start finding other places i can use to make my mediocre pictures-- mediocre...plus. cause doomsday is only two days away!!!!
so i asked myself...
what the crap do i want from my photo editing.
(i mean i love having fun little things that can turn your photo into an alien head...but i want to find something that does the things i neeeeeed.)
and the things i use the most in picnik is this....
crop...auto fix ....resize....
and color..
love me some color saturation...
it's super easy to get carried away and make everyone look like they have been stranded on a desert island with no sun screen so be careful...
i also will need text...
cause what's a voodoo doll without a proper title....
also needs are an arrow sticker...
and i would love a good collage
and cause i'm super cheap..
it needs to be free...
let's start:
PICMONKEY...
first thoughts: super clean and easy. can only upload one picture at a time...(thumbs down) but do you see that green button...collages and more coming soon!!!
but it's super similar to picnik...look at all that on the sides...
has text, stickers, frames, touch up and fun photo effects. basically it's like the baby sister of picnik.
and there is a reason why i put this one first.
it's my favorite...
edited to add:
go HERE to read five fun things about picmonkey!
but since i like options...i'll give you a few more...
BE FUNKY
be funky is fun. i played around with it HERE. it's main feature is..funky stuff. i found it a tad overwhelming....
it has all this on edit..plus...see my arrow button..it goes all the way down....full of stuff...
if you are looking for some well..funky stuff..than you are going to find it at befunky!
i mean this isn't even half the effects...and look at all these mustache stickers! i could have some fun with those!
foto flexer
i am momma here me roar did such a great job reviewing this one that it is pointess for me to do it..! go HERE to read about the similarities it has with picnik!
ipiccy
okay...this one is my A VERY CLOSE SECOND in my book!!!! it's super easy..it's not too overwhelming...and it's got loads (and i mean LOADS of features!) you can draw..it's got my exposure button...frames...stickers...text...the whole shabam. and it also gives you a list of the layers that you have going on so you can quickly delete whatever you want...
piZap
is it wrong to like this one just cause i like saying piZap...?
this one reminds me of befunky... a little over the top...super fun when you are posting your pictures of your weekend out with the girls...maybe not the best for a craft blog
i mean these frames wouldn't really do a craft justice (if you could tell what the craft was)
but it has some fun features....
you can layer a picture...you can do cut out (like i did with my husband's head..
piZap.com free online photo editor it's got stickers, drawing, text..(can you tell i just grab random pictures while i play around with it?
and look at all these fun collages it has!
and there is also aviary...
i haven't played around with it but it's acutally listed on the picnik website as a good alternative
... i will quote someone who has used it...
and the great amanda found this awesome website that is all about collages..
it's called mosiac maker....and looks pretty fun and easy...so you could use pic monkey and edit your pictures and then take them here and make the kind of collage you want...and buy a prius.
also....
naps on the porch has a great rundown of other ones HERE
and there is google + creative kit (which supposedly is just like picnik) and tip junkie has a great tut on it HERE
so i suggest this: figure out the features you use the most from picnik...and go try out a few to see which ones you truly love...i knew right away that i loved pic monkey (mostly cause it's so much like picnik and i was never good with change!)
good luck!!!
and if you get on google +make sure to follow me HERE!
Thank you thank you thank you for posting this. I am SO SAD to lose Picnik. Thanks for listing the other options. Cheers.

lydia @ the adventures of Mommaloo
I've been looking at alternatives for a while but nothing is as nice as picnik :(
ReplyDeleteThe main thing I want is rounded corners that are transparent!!!
Which is harder to come by than you might thing. Sigh...
There's also a program that's free that you can download called Paint.net that I found a few years ago and they've been updating it all the time. I used to use it all the time to take a picture in black & white then select a portion of it to turn it back to color. Love that effect.
ReplyDeleteI've been playing around with PicMonkey too. Did you know it's created by the people who came up with Picnik? Hopefully they'll be able to add what's missing soon enough.
ReplyDeleteThere's also Paint.net for people who want to download a free program and avoid the drama of a website shutting down later. ;)
ReplyDeleteLOVE this - THANK YOU For taking the time to do this. I too, have been working on all of my pictures like a crazy person - darnit picnik. Think I am going with PicMonkey (I hate change too!) - They just need to figure out their collage crap, FAST.
ReplyDeleteTrue, true...I do love PicMonkey because I too, hate change and have a slow learning curve and why is it things I love go away? My fav lipstick shade gets discontinued, I'm still sad about Pushing Daisies getting cancelled, and I swear if they cancel Happy Endings...I don't what I'll do. Sorry, that derailed fast!! :) Thanks for the other tips!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out you sweet thang! And you rock on the homework!
ReplyDeleteI literally closed out of picnik and opened my blog...have you listed on my blogroll (obviously for good reason ;) ... saw this magnificent post on picnik alternatives. Thank you. I feel less panic and will be checking these puppies out.
