video game holder...

I had the barbie holder done. the craft holder done...and i decided to whip this out before sytyc..and it soon became my favorite (as well as the son's favorite) it's just so darn useful!
it holds all the crap that comes with the video game..charger...cards...his every growing game collection!

(pet peeve...when you buy a ds game...and the container is huge..and you open it up and there is a little tiny game inside. reminds me of genie....cosmic powers...itty bitty living space. (but backwards) my son was carrying around all the games in their cases..and it was a pile of crap that got hauled around everywhere!!!!

and everything is angled on the side...so when it's folded up you don't have to worry about anything falling out!!!!!
and it folds up nice and small...and even come with a handle to hold it!

here are the measurements: 9 inches by 18.  the vinyl pieces are 8 by 4 1/2 and the size of the pockets for the games are about 2 inches by 2 1/2 inches. folded up its 9 inches by 6 inches

i started with some duck cloth. what is duck cloth? i have no idea. but it's like canvas. and it was 50% off and had lots of bright basic colors. I laid it out and measured agaagg style. (i do own a measuring tape....but i measure once and then cut and then cut and then start over cause i've cut too small..
so this is the way i do things!!)

i took vinyl...cut it to size and added binding (very similar to yesterday and the day before!) the middle piece has binding on both sides....
and i sewed it around. i left about an inch...inch and half in between the vinyl to make it so it folds up pretty nice! (each opening is facing the middle...) and the one that holds the ds has a folded over strip in the middle to make it a little bigger (same as the barbie holder...) (as does the charger holder). i also added the pockets for the video games...i did measure to make sure it was even!

then i sandwiched my canvas layer and my star wars fabric around a couple layers of stuffing. (i didn't want it puffy...but i wanted a little padding for when my son inevitable drops it....)
i pinned it all around...then i added two rows of stitches in between each vinyl (this makes it fold better)
then i folded up and figured out where i wanted my velcro. there is on the backside...one of the side
(see the velcro along the edge of the side?)

and the velcro right along the right edge of the half folded up case? so measure where you wante them...and pin in place and sew the one on the back first. then you make some binding (mine is black) and i pinned it on and sewed it around.

i took a little left over star wars binding and and sewed it together to make a handle...

and added it right behind the velcro on the inside  then sewed it all on

and that is the basics of the dsi holder! (can be adapted to whatever handheld electronic you own!)

and since joanns got all this fun star wars fabric in..i decided to make just a game holder
same basic idea..it's a bit smaller..and just holds games...

ps. have you seen these nerf holders? i love them..right up my alley (basically you can't ruin your ds if you drop it!)
