remember the review of this awesome backpack by gramma allie?
well...i have been making a few for gifts this christmas...(and now that I have made one...the others have been a BREEZE to make!)
The first backpack is for my niece (age 3) who has a *knockoff* american girl doll....and if i was awesome and started anytime BEFORE the last week of christmas i would have made her an american girl doll outfit. but apparently i'm unawesome....
but I wanted something to put inside the backpack....
and i remembered these awesome fake makeup i've featured before and have made for my daughter (and she LOVES them)
so i went to the dollar store and bought some cheap makeup, scraped out the real stuff, and poured in some nailpolish.....(and it stinks...so beware of that)
the nail polish also shrinks or settles....that compact was filled and when it dried it went down down down.....
I also found this cute felt set but since i'm unawesome i'm not even going to try it....
I decided to whip up a little bag to hold the makeup..and believe you me..this was as easy as could be!
i took a rectangle of fabric (this is doubled up to make it real thick)
and i ironed.
a moment of silence of appreciation.....
then i made some binding from leftover backpack fabric
(just like the kind i use on my levi aprons...you can go HERE to see the how-to)
then i pinned to both sides and sewed it on...
now, before i sew it together i added embellishments...
and velcro up on the binding...
okay. pay attention...this is going to go quick. to make my bags look nice inside and out...i first start on the outside and sew up the sides pretty close to the edge...(1/3 of an inch or maybe 1/4 )
then i turn it inside out and sew up the sides again..a little over a half an inch...this size needs to be bigger so it will cover the other stitching....
it just makes it so you have no unfinished edge hanging out! i don't have a serger so i use this method alot to make my crap look better....
then i added some buttons cause it just needed more JAZZ...(doing jazz hands)
the little girl is reallllllly into stuffed animals....
so i bought her this cute lion
and made him a cute collar....
and threw in some diapers, a bottle, a birp rag and a blanket....
a little mini me diaper bag....
and it all fits nice inside with room to spare!
oh my god - you are so awesome.
ReplyDeleteSO CUTE! My daughter would love all of this!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, how creative are you?? And I was just looking at your ruffled fabric lamp shade and I LOVE it! I would have never thought of using that on a lamp! I am having a 'ruffled fabric linky party' and would love if you came and linked up that project. Everyone would love it!!
ReplyDeleteI just got done making my daughter some makeup. Instead of the nail polish, I just poured dimensional magic on top of the eyeshadow & pressed powder. I just had to watch for bubbles.
ReplyDeleteI did both mine~you would be proud! They turned out cute and EASY!! I DID A ZIPPERRRRR!!!! woohoo!!! Totally fun!
