who sent home this:
a poor naked turkey.
our assignment as a family was to dress it up...
as a family.
(my craft ocd wanted me to overtake it and make it all myself so it would be awesome and i wouldn't have to compromise to the kids.)
but i acted like a good mother and didn't.
(and guess what it turned out even awesomer than expected)
and i even asked my son what colors he wanted
and he said rainbow.
{geez. he's killing me.}
the teacher sent home instructions that said, be creative. you could use macaroni or beads or feathers....
so i got to thinking...and came up with this idea.....
I started ripping out colorful pages in a few family circle magazines...
and each kid picked a color they were in charge of
and they had a square of white cardstock
and their assignment was this: cover all the white with your color...
and they made a mess....
but it involved some glue and scissors so they were content....
each square was so fun and unique...
they really did a great job....
then i took each and cut feather shapes from each color
and a body from the brown..
(and after i got the brown turkey on i thought...oh geez...we should have made a turkey dressed in camoflauge.
that would have been too funny.)
but we had all those colors...so i just glued them around the turkey!
we keep commenting on the how cute our turkey is! so fun. we might have to make a rainbow picture for our wall in the future!
This is so cute! I may have to make one with my kids this weekend!
ReplyDeleteWe had to do something similar with my son's Kindergarten class this year. The turkey looked similar, but our objective as a family was to help him hide out by creating a disguise so he didn't get eaten. We were to cut it out and dress it however we wanted then glue it to heavy paper. We dressed ours up as the singer from Slipknot.
ReplyDeleteMy son just came home with a rainbow turkey too! Except his were made from cutouts of his hands and feet. Too cute!
ReplyDeletesuper cute - - and fyi, I saw your guest post today about quilling - I've been mezmerized by quilling for awhile, but now I really need to give it a go!
ReplyDeleteWe had a similar project. My middle girl wanted a rainbow turkey too (must be the in thing). So we did fingerpaints (where it was literally our fingerprints) on the feathers, and she painted the body of the turkey in stripes of [water]color, and if that wasn't enough, the turkey NEEDED a necklace, so I pulled out my confetti and we put some in a few strands of a necklace on the turkey. Should have taken a photo. D'oh. I love how creative kids are! :-D
ReplyDeletewhat a super cute and fun project! pinning it!!!
