it's hard for me. (even if i'm only being kinda )
but i have a question.....
and i would like an answer....
GIVEAWAYS.
do you like them?
check the box
oh. i don't have a box.
then go over to the side and cast your vote...
i just don't want my blog to get clogged down with giveaways....but if you really really love them i will continue to do them in the future!
sometimes I get emails from people wanting to do giveaways for all sorts of things....i mean..totally random stuff....
and i try to keep it pretty craft oriented...
but sometimes i just wonder if it's worth it?! i dunno. you have to keep promoting it...then remembering to pick a winner and let the winner know and then repicking a winner when they don't email you back and i knowitjustsoundslikeai'mcomplainingandit'sreallyhardtotypeandnotusespaces.
and ironically, i have decided to do a giveaway when i reach 4000! lol. But it's different...it's a giveaway of my own personal crap. cause sometimes i make way too much stuff and it sits on my desk...so why not spread the
(you can follow me right over here on the left. no, your left. no..your other left.)
movieing on (left that spelling mistake on purpose...i was trying to talk to my husband about what movie we are going to watch and that came out)
(and omigosh we watched fast five. )
great movie.
but i literally laughed out loud when i realized it was supposed to be the same place as this movie..
talk about your different point of view!
PINTEREST (yes, i'm talking about pinterest again)
i have some words of wisdom when we are pinning.
if you use pinterest like me, you bookmark it so you can go back to it and
(like www.kimboscrafts.blogspot.com)
and you have to totally start searching to find the pin you pinned in the first place.
so, when pinning, make sure you are linked up directly (the blog address will look something like this...
http://kimboscrafts.blogspot.com/2010/07/girl-bibs.html
I tell you this for two reasons:
i have shout out sundays (coming tomorrow if you are new--or confused as to what day it is)
and i get a lot of people pinning stuff from there. and if it's not directly linked to that post than people who repin and the people who repin that repin think i make it when they are directly linked to my blog.
which is fine. i need all the help i can get.
only jokes. i link up each shout outs to their proper blog/crafter cause they are amazing and should receive all the credit! so it makes me feel bad when people give me the credit.
do you want to know the two pictures i get the most emails (and etsy orders) for?
and this football onesie from THIS etsy shop
and here's my second reason:
i'm currently making pillows up the wazzooo for my daughters room.
and found the cutest pillow on pinterest.
and followed the link to the CUTEST BLOG
and it was the blog homepage.
and this blog was just a blog that linked to pretty images...(and gave credit) so it was full of awesomeness.
so i then spent the next two hours scrolling through trying to find the pillow.
and i did.
and found the true source for the blog...
and it wasn't a pillow....it was a martha stewart tissure pom that they had placed on the bed for a photo op.
awesome sauce.
so, just a little advice...link it up directly to the source..that way everyone gets a little pinterest love...
(crafterminds just wrote a post on pinterest etiquette....) totally interesting..
and did you know i added a food crap board (titled, hopefully not CRAPPY food)
and did you also know you can blog stalk your own blog and see what people are pinning from your website
http://pinterest.com/source/kimboscrafts.blogspot.com/
just change out my blog for yours....
it's a nice pat on the back.
okay. that's all..giveaways..vote..we all pinterest..rio...food is good. the end.
oh...happy birthday daddy!
HaHa, you totally have me K-Racking up too early on Saturday morning. I am currently doing a 10 day giveaway extravaganza and it may be the death of me. Writing the posts, promoting, back and forth with the generous artist donating the item, picking a winner, posting the winner....ugh I am tired and it will be A WHILE before I do all this again.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I LIKE winning giveaways-so I guess it is worth it-sometimes. BTW- I would love to win some of your crap too. I can never have enough crap.
That pinterest info is great too. Thanks for sharing and hopefully some of those culprits actually read it and try to play nicely:)
kim @ too much time
I bet you could make that up as a cushion anyway with some voile or organza. And your glue gun (obv) or a sewing machine. In fact, I'm feeling reckless, if you don't want to do one, I will. Let me know. Otherwise it will sit in my mind languishing til someone else does it and I kick myself cos I could have had an awesome feature on agaagg (yes, I still laugh at when I didn't know agaagg didn't stand for a girl and a glue gun (also, can't believe I just reminded you of that super cringe time))
ReplyDeleteOk, that is all.
:)
That is my BIGGEST pinterest pet-peeve. The worst are the ones from a google-image search where they clicked on the picture and not the blog link so then you can't even find the original blog! Gah!!
ReplyDeleteOoooo, yes, totally agree on the whole pinterest thing, or when it takes you to a google search etc, drives me NUTS (I mean even more nuts than I actually am)
ReplyDeleteComps are great as long as they're well balanced with other posts. A blog will attract me with a comp, but its the other posts that make me follow & keep coming back.
AaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAA - on the Pinterest thing. I get at LEAST 2 emails a day asking about Crayon Folio thingy that was linked to one of my parties and someone pinned on Pinterest... but to my blog homepage. It is SO frustrating! I love the traffic... but I know it frustrates a lot of people (hence all the emails). I was FINALLY (after many, many hours) able to locate the tiny little thumbnail of the project so now when people email me I give them the link and ask them to add it to the pin they saw it on.... PHew! And I love seeing what others are pinning of mine. My all time highest pins: My free weekly meal planner and my daughters Pinkalicious party. AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteI like giveaways but I never bother with more than writing a comment because it becomes too time consuming to post on FB, like the place on FB....I'm not on Twitter or anywhere else, or have a blog, so those are not even for me. All the extra voting parts I never do.
ReplyDeleteSo I guess I'm saying I like giveaways even though I never win but I keep trying because it's like a grab bag and I'm all about grab bags!
LOVE IT!I Hate the Ones that send you to Pintrest. Have you had those? You see something absolutely Cool and you want to go there and it literally goes No Where. Thank You for saying what we all are thinking!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the pinterest info -- I'm just getting started and it's already completely addictive!
ReplyDeleteI like an occasional giveaway when they're relevant to the blog they're on. And when I win them.
:-) I don't like having to follow a bunch of steps (follow, tweet, link back, do a cartwheel) to enter.
About the giveaways... as a Canadian I find giveaways REALLY annoying, because I am 99% of the time not eligible. If a blog I subscribe to becomes to full of giveaways I usually unsubscribe because I really just wanted to see the cute/ inspiring things they post - not about their sponsors.
ReplyDeleteOK I love giveaway but hate that you have to do tons of crap to enter it. I just want to leave one comment and leave it at that. All the other hoops and 'like' this and 'tweet' that stuff drive me nuts.
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally agree on the pinterest pointers. I hate having to scroll through a blog trying to find the picture of what I actually want to pin. I usually repin it with the correct link. But it's so annoying!
Love the random crap posts ;)
I love your blog.
ReplyDeleteAnd, thanks for the link about seeing what people have pinned on Pinterest. I didn't know that existed.
As for your question, personally, I'm on the fence about giveaways.
A.) I've never won.
B.) It's just a ruse to get more followers.
C.) I HATE the ones where you have to follow no less than 30 different things (blogs, Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, Tumbler...) just to be considered... plus the other 50 ways to enter.
I guess I'm too anti-attention hoebag for this virtual world. I believe followers should follow of their own free will, not in hopes of winning a prize.
Apparently, I'm not as 'on the fence' as I thought, huh?
Ooh good advice 'cause I just ran into that same problem today, whilst looking for a recipe AND a hairdo.
ReplyDeleteThanks for mentioning to check pinterest to see if anyone has pinned anything from our blogs. I was very surprised to see that some of my projects had been pinned! Thanks again, Jane
ReplyDeleteI like giveaways that are simple (ie leave a comment) and one entry person type.
ReplyDeleteGiveaways? I can take 'em or leave 'em. So far I have never won anything, but then I never do more than just comment.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree about pinning a pic from a WHOLE ENTIRE BLOG. Frustrating to try to follow up.
I LOVE THE GIVEAWAYS!!! I just won my first one ever and I was so excited. Keep them coming!
ReplyDeleteOk can I just throw in my 2 cents about giveaway's, cuz a yes or no answer doesn't really cover how I really feel! I like personal giveaways. Like what you are doing for your 4000 followers. I don't care for the sponsored giveaways. I hate opening my google reader and seeing 10 or so posts of pretty much the same exact thing on different blogs giving away the same thing. That's when I come to your blog and remember why I love your blog the most and love that you don't participate! Obviously do what you want to do but one of the many reasons I love your blog is because you don't do sponsored giveaways. Also thanks for the stuff about pinterest! I so wish more people understood that!! So basically your awesome and keep being you! :)
ReplyDeletethank you, thank you, thank YOU! for saying that stuff about pinterest. while i love the site and pin alot, that is such a big pet peeve.
ReplyDeletegiveaways can take or leave, but i do have a dilemna. i actually won a book awhiles back and the gal said she sent it ... TWICE! and i've never got it. are some of these contests scams? cuz i just can't imagine not getting it if it was sent twice??? and i really wanted to read the book. sigh
Love this post. You're funny. And your blog rocks.
