do you want to know why?
if you are a girl..YOU KNOW WHY.
I like to call this skirt, "I'm lazy and don't want to shave my legs skirt"
yeah i said it. you know we all thinking it...
and it's super easy. so you can whip up a bunch and never shave again.
(insert wonderfully evil laugh)
(also insert husband's groan)
and i feel like i should give myself one hundred points for actually using fabric i have then going shopping at joanns.
to get the basic measurements on the hips i folded the fabric in half and cut out the basic shape (except leave it long of course)
I did one side and then folded it over to make it even...
then i just sewed up the sides.
the only tricky part is the waistband..but once you figure out how to do it..you will be 25 skirt deep.
you section off the elastic into equal fourths.....
do the same with the skirt...
then you just match up the pins. there will be excess fabric between the pins...
when you sew it you will pull the elastic as you go along and match it up with the fabric...
now..i did this one a little different (not on purpose) but whenever i have done this in the past I have sewed the elastic on top of the fabric (less bulk)
i'm not worried about it cause it will be underneath my shirts..but if you are thinking of tucking in your shirts....then do it not like me.
you can go here to see how to do it the other way...
then you can try it on...adjust the length and hem it up...
shall i once again mention just HOW much i hate posing...?
i'm hiding a cheese stick behind my back in this one..i just took it away from my son. lol.
Great idea! (I also hate shaving, but who doesn't?) What kind of material did you use?
ReplyDeleteYeah..i don't know...one of the downsides from using my stash. poly cotton?
ReplyDeletealright, I need to make one now...
ReplyDeletewas it a stretchy fabric? :)
ReplyDeleteI love this, and living in Phoenix I could totally wear these all year round! How much fabric did you use? I do not know how to sew, but my mother in law does, and I could see if she could do this for me! :)
ReplyDeleteSimple, flattering, modest - love it! I like the denim jacket with it, too. Need to go make one - right after I finish the gifts I need to make, my daughter's new bedcovering, patching my jeans, and a swingy vest for my daughter. Hmmm...wonder what good skirt fabric is in my stash?
ReplyDeleteI love that. I need to make one for myself.
ReplyDeleteBy the way you look adorable in the pics.
Love this! I am a no-shaver all of winter (practically...at least it decreases from summer) so I can't wait to have this skirt in my wardrobe! And even though you hate to pose, you look dashingly cute in the photos:)
ReplyDeleteit doesn't have a whole lot of stress..it's more on the heavy side so it hangs really pretty....
ReplyDeleteand i think it a yard and half but 60 inches wide...and no. i don't. i look like i have the sun in my eyes and i'm pmsing. just saying. lol.
You should change your name to an awesomely good girl and a glue gun, cus then it would be aaggaagg. Just kidding! Love this skirt.:)
ReplyDeleteI love the denim shirt with a printed maxi skirt! I'm so glad I'm not the only one wearing that anymore
ReplyDeleteLOVE!!!! I have been wanting to do this and now I think I WILL!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's adorable and I love your super easy tutorial. As a newbie at sewing, thanks a bunch! Also, I like the look of the elastic on top - almost like a belt? I may never shave my legs again...
ReplyDeleteSo. Awesome. As I am currently outgrowing my maternity clothes - with 10 weeks to go! - I think I see a dozen of these in my future :)
ReplyDeleteYou are mentioned in my post: http://trixih.blogspot.com/2012/05/maxi-skirt.html
ReplyDeleteCheck it out!
How did you come up for the measurement on what to cut? I'm confused at that step.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
i just eyeball..taking a skirt that fits and using that as a pattern. i hold up and see how long it is...and if i need to trim it.
