twine ball (ur..lantern?)

okay. i was going to do this with regular twine...and mod podge...and make myself a big mess..

but then i found this at joanns
(it was $4..but i used my 40% coupon..)
 i blew up a balloon
tied the twine to the top of the balloon and started wrapping...
i added little dobs of hot glue to hold it in place until i was done (after you are done you can rip them off really easy and it stays put)
after it's done i just cut a little hole in the balloon...
and just carefully scooted it out...
sprayed it with some ballet slipper...

then i hang...(all my lanterns and thingamombobs are getting hung with this illusion cord...you can hardly see it! thus the name..illusion. )

okay..you can see it in this picture..but in real life you can hardly see it...

you can see all the glue gun hairs that i need to sit down and pick off....

you getting sick of my ceiling yet?

this one is one of my favs..i think i'm going to do a punch ball size one for myself and put a hanging light fixture in it!!!!

or you could make little ones for decorations on your coffee table

  2. Me too! I like this one the best so far. I might have to go the messy route though since I don't have any craft stores around here! Nicely done!

  4. I think I heard somewhere, on someones crapt blog that if you hit those glue gun hairs with a blow dryer they will melt away, or something like that. Not sure. You are the glue gun expert, but it might be worth a try. By the way, love your blog.

  5. Yep. I was just going to comment about the blow dryer... Every glue gun enthusiast needs to use that trick! Works like magic! :) Very cute project.

  8. Freakin awesome. I was seriously dreading having to make a handful of these for our baby boy's nursery design. I never thought (or knew) of pre-wired twine. You are gonna make my life so much easier. THANK YOU!

  9. How great is this?! Those twine balls - particularly the larger ones - are really expensive. Love that they can be made to custom sizes this way!

  11. Seriously, you may be my hero now for finding this wired twine! I'm going to search and search until I find it! I was going to do yarn and mod podge, but I have some serious doubts about it working. This will make life so, so, so much easier!

Thanks for the tip and I am loving every bit of your ceiling so far!

  12. I'm 3rding or 4thing the hair dryer trick. It melts the little strands right into your project and you never see them again!!! And you call yourself AGAAGG. ;)-

  17. I love it! It's adorable! Just one question. I see that you've used fishing line to hang it with but what did you hang it on? A hook in the ceiling maybe?

  18. How fun! Wired Twine! I've made smaller easter egg versions of these with string and fabric stiffener but these twine balls look like so much fun! Looks like they would be great patio lighting with some cheap light bulb socket! Super cute!

  20. So after seeing this I was searching ANYWHERE to find this wired twine in a bulk format where I wouldn't have to pay quite as much as at a craft store. I'm still looking for the best deals (it's amazing how hard it is to find even when I google search the product name clearly on the label?), but for those that might also be looking I found something very similar here and a lot for a decent price: http://www.save-on-crafts.com/rusticwire1.html Good luck!!
