now i have you singing britney don't i?
I made another felt mat.....lego style..
I made it HUGE.....the felt is 2 yards wide at joanns....so I got 2 yards to make it an even square. I folded it up and took some string and a sharpie and made a perfect circle
(It cost me $6 for all the green (it's 30% off!) so really cheap and easy!)
I hate legos. like i have none in my house cause they are so small and hurt so bad when you step on them. (this is for my nephew)
so I decided to make this mat with a twist....you can gather up the the strings to make it into a bag.
so you can throw all your legos into the mat..play with them....and then gather it up and keep them all there until next time.
I took a LONG rope and hot glued the edge all around the circle leaving the rope inside (but make sure it doesn't get hot glued so it can be pulled to gather)
then I took a strip of red felt
and hot glued it on top to give it a nice finished edge.
when I got about halfway done..i hot glue the rope....so you can't pull it out accidently. you have to pull the sides evenly.now...after I had it all done and gathered....i realized my mat was so stinking big...it wasn't going to gather into a nice small bag....
it will still hold your legos inside.....but it still has an opening at the top..
reminds me of santa's bag.....but green.
I googled lego man...and got some pictures to mimic my guy after...
same with the lego logo.
whoa. say that five times fast.
my plan was to buy one of these lego boards and velcro it to the middle..
but of course idaho stinks in the toy department and couldn't find any
(they are called base plates if you are looking to buy!)
so i just hot glued the guy in the middle
and made some felt lego's to build some crap on.
(for the record..my son is on the small side)
and if you have a few minutes...google lego...it's AMAZING!
this lego felt mat brings my felt mats up to number 6 (with another one in the works)
all the info on these mats can be found HERE
That's so cute and a great idea! My fav is still the Littlest Pet Shop mat, but I love how this one cinches up!
ReplyDeleteNice! You could put the kid in it....lol My son loved lego, I miss though days.
ReplyDeleteLove it! My little boy is just getting into Legos...thinking about some for Christmas. This would be handy!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea for a gift! I love it.
ReplyDeleteLego's rule and so does that mat! I want one of my own now! (hubby loves legos!)

Whoa. Your mats are so nice! That mat-bag is a super good idea.
ReplyDeleteI like the Batman one! They are all so cool.
ReplyDeleteThis idea is genius!!! LOVE IT!!!! I want to make a mat for all of my daughters toys with small crappy pieces!! We might look like we robbed Santa with that many sacks sitting around : )
ReplyDeleteAnd the lego full size car is NUTS!! I have been to a lego store in Chicago and it was amazing seeing those kinds of things in person.
And, as your friend, I want to warn you that people are calling you "A girl and a felt mat" behind your back. ; ) Seriously tho...it might be your middle name. But you are awesome at it! Maybe if I lived in as cold a place I would be able to get more crafts done. Hummmm....not worth trying out cold weather.
<3 you...cause you rock!!!
Um...I'm in love with your felt mats and I feel a great urge to copy at least two of them. Thanks for sharing and inspiring!
ReplyDeleteP.S. The lego mat turned out fantastic. It didn't need no stinking base board thingy. =)
Cool!! We love Legos at our house!! Every time we go to the Mall of America we have to stop by Lego Land and check out all the cool creations!
ReplyDeleteYour right!! I am singing Britney Spears now! haha. The lego mini van- CRAZY!!
ReplyDeleteNice. Where were you 20 years ago when I had legos out the wazoo? I still do, but they are in a hug tub in the crawlspace. You think Legos are bad to step on? Try micromachines...in Desert Storm desert camo....on 'sand' berber carpet....little tanks...yeah.
ReplyDeleteSo cool!!! Where do you get such large felt? :) I want to try some of your ideas :)
ReplyDeleteLove them! I am inspired to make my own! I have been trying for weeks to find felt by the yard in a brick and mortar store, and they just don't have it in my area. Lame, right? I can't believe your Joann's had it big enough to make 2-yards square! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis is genius
ReplyDeleteUmmmm, BRILLIANT.
