blind starburst mirror

I'm still on "vacation" which is ridiculous that I still call it that. but I have some awesome guest posters coming at you this week and some other odds and ends like this little treasure from the diy club

Its been a long time since school...and math is one of those things you tend to forget...but here is an equation that we all can do....

Kids+cheap blinds=
yes, I am a very good tenant....okay. not true
but I am a very good cheap hoarder.
and I am going to re-use these blinds...

I had this mirror
also hoardered away from somewhere (serious--probably had it for a good 4 years.)
snipped off the pieces...

and trimmed the edges

then laid them all out and spray painted them (first with krylon primer....F.Y.I...primer in a can is my new one true love!)

I took some foam core board and cut out a circle.....

and starting with the long pieces...I started hot gluing all the way around.

you can stop when you reach fan mode and cool yourself off.

continue around (I used my glue gun to glue these pieces all on.

then I took my shorter pieces and stuck them between the bigger pieces....

back side.

once it's all attached...i had to pick out a color to spray it....I ended up doing it in gloss white (krylon of course)

The mirror looked a little lonely...

so I cut some more foam board
(traced around the mirror and then cut out about two inches extra around it.)
and wrapped it with fabric
and added some rosettes (I have been doing hair stuff all week...so rosettes are on the mind!)

(If you need a tutorial go HERE)

Now..You know I love my glue gun right? but the last thing I wanted was this mirror to fall down and break....so I whipped out the gorilla..epoxy.

and let me tell you..this mirror ain't going nowhere!

next was how to attach it my wall..(normally..I hot glue it. i know i know...I don't need a lecture!)

but then these things  came into my life.

and I will never be the same!!!!!!

just moisten it and stick it on...

let set (overnight) then hang up! genius!

okay..and for picture overload:

here's my problem...I want it everywhere. I honestly have about 5 places to put it.....

this one is above my shelf...

above my couch...

by my stairs!

I just can't decide!
how many starburst are too many starburst?
what if they are all different colors!?
now, one set of blinds will yield a bazillion starburst mirror (okay..maybe not a bazillion! but I used just one side about 1/4 of the way up....so at least 8 or so!)

sidenote:

i recovered it when I redid my living room:
and if you thought I cleaned my mirror before taking this picture.

then you thought wawrong.

  1. What a great idea! I love that mirror! And if you can't find a place for it, just make another, and another, and another! I don't think it's too many starbursts...or maybe I just want you to make one for me? :P

  2. I admit when I saw the post title I was a bit skeptical. But then I saw the pictures. Oh my! It looks awesome! I know better than to doubt you! I'm going to have to share this with my sister (whose kids have a love/hate relationship with blinds).

  4. I want to know if you have a tutorial for your sewing machine cover? I have 2 fabrics I have plans for - a cover for my sewing machine and one for my cricut - just can't find a pattern that's simple enough for my crafting ability.
