APRON shelf

another diy club treasure..... (there will be a few more!)

I made my weekly...okay daily trip to the D.I (a thrift store) and found this board....
(I forget to get a good before shot..it was brick red with a blue stripe down it. It was a from boys room...I could just tell.)

I painted it with my mythic primer...love that crap..actually it's too good to even call it crap.
took my pegs out

I took my americana paint in indian turquoise and mixed a little white to get this pretty blue shade.

This little shelf stood out to me cause it has this inset (is that what you even call it?) but I thought it would be perfect to just set frames inside without hanging them up. (I should also mention the $1 price tag also stood out to me.)

painted it with a gloss white..
and after everything was all dry..

took my handy dandy gorilla wood glue and filled the holes

no wait...didn't do that yet.

I took my vinyl that I got from Design Divas

they have all different variations of these too...I was looking for one that side...rip open, dump..add an egg, cook..but I guess they don't make one.

and cut each little word apart and applied them between the pegs holes.

THEN  i took my gorilla wood glue and added my pegs.

I got it hung up....thought it needed maybe something more.....

so I took my sanding bug (from rockler..I should mention that I have to hide this..my husband keeps trying to stake claim to it..it's pretty awesome) and roughed it up a bit...

(don't worry..I took it off the wall to finish it...)

THEN I thought it needed something even more than THAT!
So I took another trip to the D.I.
and bought these.

I know right? why in the world would I buy these..

but give them a shot of krylon

I *maybe* should have primed the non-stick frying pan..but my trusty krylon kicked butt and about 2 1/2 coats later...

I had a beautiful red whisk

 and a green pan ....
but it didn't look like a frying pan...I needed a little contrast.

so I took my americana paint in black
and painted the burner side..

when THAT dried..I took a ribbon tied it around the handle and added them to my shelf.

phew..you still with me.
do you see the lovelyness that is below the shelf

awesome....

I got my aprons hung up...my whisky thing and my frying pan..

and now for the top.

crud. out of ideas.

okay not really. I made this yum sign

and then I stole this from above my cabinets.

 (don't worry..I will find a replacment...)

This frame was also spray painted with red krylon and then i just framed some cupcake fabric.

omigosh..are you ready for the finished product:

wait

wait

wait.

pan out a little wider

it just weird tall wall...my fridge is right next to that garbage bag holder!

but i love it cause it's easy to swap out stuff...give you kitchen a change of scenery every once in awhile.

add a plate... (if you didn't have a little ledge to rest it you can use those fancy dischangers...love those things!)

or simplfy it
