a little tailoring...

let's say you are freakin awesome.

and follow me on my pinterest boards.

{okay. let's say you are freakin awesome EVEN if you don't.}

but if you do...you will notice I have a clothes and hair crap board.

and I seem to notice a trend in the clothes I like.....

you see. i gain weight in my mid section. all the way around....some love handles on the back...and you can grab a good grip on the front handles.  nothing bad....but sometimes I need to tuck it into my pants. (or maybe I just try and it never works.) or sometimes I try to push it up to my upper region....the one that could use a little more...

wait. where am i?

oh. So i love caridgans... like love. (like maybe I counted the ones in my closet and stopped when  i reached twenty..) and so when I went into down east last wed armed with a 50% off the clearance price...
I saw this cardigan. super cute...in a color I don't have....

10...half off. yeah. I can do $5.
wait...zoom in a little more....

crappola. I might have some midway baggage...but I wear a s/m.
not an xl.

but it was the last one. so I bought it anyway...

and I decided to take it in a little bit..

I turn it inside out.....and follow along the seam that's already there.....and just take off a few inches....

do you see the seam where I took it in?  here let me add some arrows to help you.....

fits like a glove cardigan.

(this pink shirt I got at downeast for $2.50)
now..make sure you go in small take ins...you don't want to take in like 5 inches...it will make it so the arm pit will pucker...or gather...or do something that armpits shouldn't do.

and if you have a lot of bulk where you added your new seam...you can cut off the first seam and finished the edges to get rid of the excess fabric...

modeling sucks.

now...I actually do this a LOT. I cleaned out my pjs and decided it was time to grow up and get rid of my candy pj bottoms (it's okay..I still have my valentine conversation heart ones.)
i just turned them inside out...
and took some off the sides...and the inside...and off the bottom...
(i sewed...then cut..expect the bottom)
perfect for my 7 year old....

and I did that with an old tank top of mine...just took in the sides a tad...

and then connected the straps in the back to make it fit better...

its a great easy way to resize (as long as you aren't going DRASTIC!)

  1. Would it be completely inappropriate to say I freaking love you?!?!?! I have so many shirts/cardigans/sweaters that are too big on me from losing a bit of weight....I've saved them in case I fatten up again, but now I'll be trimming the seams! Thank you for sharing this!!!

  3. Another thing I may have to try. You're a creative genius! (Or maybe I'm just a creative dunce... or both)

  4. I absolutely adore your ability to get the most wear out of anything!! With that said, you can't say you have love handles and whatnot when you wear a size S/M!!!!!! It's just not fair!! You are AGGAAGGG (A gorgeous girl and a gorgeous glue gun!)
