My poor kitchen aid. So cold. So naked. Needed a cover. (I sometimes like to pretend inanimate objects are real humans....if you couldn't tell)
I love my kitchenaid. It is the most used thing in my house (besides the glue gun) (and sewing machine) even though my husband says it could be used more....I love it. I love love it. I wanted the pink one. But since I am changing the colors in my house as often as I change diapers...pink wasn't realistic. Settled for the boring old white one. So let's make it pretty.
I drew a picture. Cause it would have just got confusing. Cut out these pieces.
I used my pinking shears to prevent fraying. (I love them...basically i love anything that makes my life easier)
I wanted a different fabric around the bottom...so I pinned each piece in place and sewed each one on separate before assembling.
Sewed up the bottom to make it look purdy.
I ironed all of these pieces to make it lie as flat as possible.
ohhh...cut those strings. What a mess.
And while your iron is hot. I ironed on some interfacing on the top piece to make it keep a little shape while it's covering my baby.
You could do this last....but i can't leave a hot iron on for longer than 5 minutes. It's dangerous.
Now...no pictures for this next step. But I just took one side and attached it to the top. Then pinned on the next side and sewed that to the top and then sewed the sides together and just worked my way around. You have to work with the corners to get them nice and even...but if I can do..anyone can do it.
Now when you turn it right side out....
Your kitchenaid will thank you.
you can also use this basic pattern to make a sewing machine cover..
Cute!! And I love that fabric!!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for posting this tutorial. I just made a red and black one for my friend and she absolutely loves it...as do I! This was pretty easy to follow too. I'll have to make one once I get a Kitchenaid Mixer.
