a bed skirt...

my house is small. and has ONE closet (i mean besides the small ones in the bedrooms) so I use up every viable space i have.....)

so when my daughter got a "big girl bed" (out of a zip tied crib...yes...the sides were zip tied together)

when i put  it all together...i thought...yeah. we are going to have to do something about this...

we need under the bed space (sorry monsters..no room for you)

I went and bought some of these bed lifters.

(walmart $7)

and started shoving all the junk underneath......

anyways..between the junk and the bed lifters...it wasn't so pretty.

i needed a bed skirt.

and since i just got new sheets for her bed...
and you know my disdain for TOP SHEETS...(remember how i made curtains out of my daughters OTHER top sheets..)
so i made a bed skirt out of a top sheet. top sheet. and one more for good measure...top sheet.

and it was the perfect size!

see, if i was a good blogger i would have ironed. (snort)
i laid it out and cut it into 4 strips length wise....

two of these are going to have the finished edges....the strips in the middle will need a hem (so make them a little bit bigger so when you are done hemming all 4 are an equal size....

hemmed the bottom of the two that needed it....

then i ran a loose stitch through the top of the first two and gathered it slightly..

i had bought a little over a yard and a half of extra fabric for the middle...(measure your bed before going in so you won't over or under buy!) PS..make sure it's the  right size!!!!! it needs to fit perfectly!


put right sides together

and pinned the the edge...

and then sewed....
(on the two small sides i had to trim off about 2 feet of top sheet...which i sewed onto my other long sides...) so i covered all 4 sides (in case I rearranged her bed i wanted to be able to move it however i wanted) and had no scraps of top sheet left!

then pry off your mattress...lay it down and put your mattress back on...

so much better than looking at all the junk

so far we have a crate of barbie stuff (which includes two horses and two cars)

littlest pet shop mat

dress up suitcase

a stupid ginormous barbie air plane

3 crates that hold puzzles, mcdonalds toys, and games

and a dora castle.

they both like it....

(isn't that an awfully big bed for such a little girl...makes me sad. she's my baby!)

i have a ton of work still to do with this little bed...
