dress to skirt refashion!

My sister bought a couple *awesome ( i use it loosely) dresses from the thrift store....

and decided that they would make cute skirts....so we chopped them...
(leaving a few inches up top to fold down)
had a little photo shoot...

folded down the edge and sewed......

oh wait. that's it. about the easiest refashion ever!!!!! (both dresses had elastic already in the waist....but you could totally add some in! just add a safety pin and thread it through)

the blue one:

so hot. we tried to convince her to wear it like this....but she's single...so we didn't want to kill ALL male prospects.....

this one was more full than she wanted....so i had her put it on inside out....and pinned the extra fabric as a guide to where i would sew.....

about 4 inches off all sides.....
after I got it sewed we snipped off the extra and then pinned down the waist and sewed that around...

decided to add a little slit...(you know...to entice the boys)
I ironed the extra fabric and used my new sewing machine (stewart) to add a blind hem stitch...
If you want a great tutorial on how to do a blind hem stitch  you can go check out make it and love it....HERE)
anddddd i forgot to take a picture of the slit all done.

so sad...
but that's it.....take a grandma/80's dress...and make some cute easy skirts!

Just goes to show ...you always have to bring your game when going thrifting ... with a little tlc an okay item can become a GREAT item :)

  9. Definitely one of those "wish I had thought of that" moments! Love it! With all the sewing projects and no sewing machine, you are making me work overtime to figure out how to recreate all of it with just an iron and hem tape. LOL thanks!
