so. i've already written out my cartridges posts...then I bought scal. so bear with me through the cartridges and then we will get down and dirty with scal.
it does all sorts of cute things..but one of my favs is the cards!
you could just cut the card...but they also do a boarder too...
this spring is from this cartridge also!
cute school bus card
the frame has the leaves....love that!
and the waves! too cute! If you are a mad card maker you need this one!
Here are some projects i have made using it:
my daughters 1 year old invitations! (this is before I blogged...so the pictures are less than par!)
the branch is done this one
the baby stroller (this is in my etsy shop fyi)
it's got the paisleys
from this project (that I ripped off and put on my canisters)
she used the hello kitty font cartridge.
and did you see the cute table icandy made (on ucreate)
she used her gypsy and cricut to cut out the image!
ALSO:
go check out this party for loads of awesome ideas!
AND...I've added a sidebar post
click on what cutter you have...or would buy. you know...just for funnsies.
I thought it would be awesomesauce (word of the day) to do a post all about the pros and cons of all the cutters...
but I only own one.
so I can only do pros and cons of the cricut...
BUT my twitter friend (and now blog friend lyssa) told me she did one about the silhouette and ecraft (after her cricut died)
so go HERE to read it....cause i've never even heard of ecraft (cricut bubble)
and it sounds like awesomesauce (thats two)
Here's my pros and cons about the cricut:
pros. i like the name.
um...they go on sale for cheap.
cons: cartridges are expensive
mats can get expensive
now you can't get scal or mtc so basically you have to buy the cartridges.
(if you have a cricut and no scal...make sure you buy it before the 27th of you are gonna be upacreek.)
crap. okay. to be honest. love my cricut...(hence the cricut love posts) but (big butt) I probably would buy a silhouette if I was starting from scratch here.
shh.don't tell the grasshopper.
so sad.
oh. thought of another pro....people are going to be getting rid of their cricuts to upgrade so you could probably buy cartridges for cheap!!!!
if you have a pro or con about a cutter...leave me a comment!
now...remember you can buy scal HERE...and it's compatible with Craftwell eCraft™, Black Cat Cougar/Lynx™, Boss Kut Gazelle™, Pazzles Inspiration™, Silhouette SD™, USCutter
yeah...no clue what the h some of these are.
did you see this ADORABLE project (crafterhours on sugar bee)
the scrapping table has a dingbat of states
you can hook it up and cut out your little state.....so cool!
lovely crafts :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband bought a cricut for me after I mentioned "someday" wanting one (I have mentioned that for 2 years now lol).
ReplyDeleteI love all your posts using it because it shows just how much I can do! I need to invest in some more vinyl and get working. Thank you for all the wonderful ideas!
I love my Cricut, love my SCAL (big gasp when I heard it wasn't being sold any more!) For my mats, I get the pastey glue off with alcohol, etc and re glue it with those big fat blue glue sticks. The ones where the glue is tacky if it dries clear or permenant if you stick while it's still blue?! I put that all over my mats and it lasts me a while and is even stickier than the original mat stick! Hope this helps! I want the Sillouette too just because it's cool, they're BOTH cool! No harm done there little grasshopper! :)
ReplyDeleteI love all of the wonderful things that you do with your cutter! The cards are BEAUTIFUL and I really want to do some freezer paper stencils.
ReplyDeleteI have had a Cricut for a few months but, I really have yet to use it. I am wondering if I should get SCAL before it's too late? Also, when I click the link it takes me to SCAL2, is that the one I want? Thanks in advance!
Enjoy your blog so much. Thanks for the info on SCAL. I own both a Cricut (Original) and the Cricut Expression 2 Anniversary Edition. I didn't think the SCAL program was still available but thanks to your post I found out that it is still available until the 27th. Just finished downloading it and can't wait to see what all I can do with it. Thanks again:)

ReplyDeleteI love my Cricut and SCAL too... but I secretly want the Silhouette too! :)
ReplyDeleteKelly
I have a cricut too. I do love it, but... now I'm having issues with the decision on getting it over the silhouette. I got my cricut expression in Nov'10 and had no idea about SCAL or MTC at the time of purchase. Then I found out about it and immediatley purchased it right after I got my cricut. So although I got the cricut over the silhouette I now hate the fact that circut is putting an end to such great programs for future cricut buyers and current owners. I'm sure those programs will soon come out with more great features/updates and I'll be stuck with the only one that currently works with cricut. I'm now kinda wishing I got the silhouette. I will most likely get another cutter if/when the cricut dies.
ReplyDeleteI'm now scared that I won't be able to use my SCAL as I LUVS it now. I'm afraid to use Provo Crafts Craft Room or any future Provo craft programs fearing that it will change my cricut and won't work with SCAL anymore.
I have to remind myself of why I got the cricut to begin with. At the time it seemed like to superior cutter with various materials. I also liked the option of cartridges. Granted I'm not a cartridge hoarder, I do like the option of them. Some of them are really great and I don't have to think when using them. When I don't feel super creative I'll use those.
okay...let's see if i can clarify everything. If you can still find scal...buy it. scal decided to stop being compatible with cricut but is giving us a few weeks to buy it up FAST! (scal 2 is the one you want..scal 3 works with the other cutters.) scal will continue to work with your cricut AS LONG AS YOU don't UPDATED YOU FIRMWARE!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking...that know mtc and scal's are out...provocraft will come up with something similar...i've heard good things about the gypsy.
and yes. I still might buy cartridges if they are on major sale. sometimes they are just so nice and easy and no thought process is involved!!!!!
I'm sooooo tickled that you posted a picture of my onesie. I check your blog daily (ok multiple times a day)! I just finished a menu board but haven't posted it yet. I'll be sure to link back to you and send you a picture. :)
ReplyDeleteI think that I am going to vinyl my laptop because of this post. I do love my Cricut too, although a Silhouette would be a nice companion for her. I try to buy cartridges that my friends don't have so that we can swap and spread the cost.
ReplyDeletesqueee! i see kansas in those states silhouettes!
ReplyDeletegah, i live in a really boring shaped state...hah!
love all the projects, especially the laptop! i heart paisley.
I love your blog!! Well I have a Pazzle Inspiration and I love it!
ReplyDeletePros:
- no cartriges to buy (unless you want to)
- It connects to your computer so you can use clip art you find online for free
- Since it connects to your computer you have all the fonts on your computer available to you
- it uses the same cutting mats/pens as the cricut
Cons:
- you have to connect it to your computer(I wish it was network enabled so I wouldn't have to be in the same room to cut a project out...but that's just me)
- the software isn't as user friendly as i'd like it to be(but it's not hard to figure out)
hope this is of any use to anyone :)
